It is Friday, a few days after my incident with the guard and the head boy. I had filled in Yayen on what had happened that night and his only advice was to move on as this involved the head boy. It was his word against mine, I could never win. On the other hand I had left my roommates in total darkness as I did not want them judging me or leaking the details which would get me in trouble.
I had told them that I had fallen asleep doing a little bit of extra studying. They seemed to buy it, expect Jack who knew I was lying. I really wanted to tell my best friend Jack the truth but he had a problem of over reacting every time. I'm sure if I had told me, he would be exchanging punches a minute after, with Michael.
On the upside, visit is tomorrow. This is when parents come to see you in the process bringing a bit of that good home cooked food and other goodies thus leaving us tuck. I can't wait to see my mom, I had missed her so much. Over the last years my mom has never missed a single visit although she has missed countless ones for my brother when he was still in high school. He doesn't stop talking about how hurt he is, but I guess that's the disadvantages of being first born.
There is also going to be a soccer match tomorrow as always on visiting days; there are playing against this team called Hebron, so hope they win. Jack is over the moon as he says he has new skills to show the girls. I so hope he doesn't mess up. Unfortunately Ryan was not chosen to be part of the team and he will be watching from the side lines with us.
On all Fridays we finish school at 1.00. Today our form, as planned, we go play some friendly soccer match after lunch. As the girls would be locked in, in their fence, boys did what they wanted as the school would be vacant. People wore funny looking shorts, ripped or no t-shirts at all as they headed to the grounds.
We were going to play in teams of five each. My team had Ashley, Martin, Yayen and Jack. I have to admit our team had the least talented soccer players ever. Jack was the only soccer player in our team. We were going to play first against Brian's team, which had Theo, Rodney, Mike and Peter, making it by far the best team.
" The first team to score two goals wins and then the losing team goes out to make way for another team." Shouted Brian making sure everyone got the rules. There were a total of five teams.
"You guys are going to lose." Brian says looking at my team with a slight grin on his face. Truth to be told he was right as I turned and looked at what a flimsy team we had. But because it was a competition no way I was going to back down.
"We will see about that." I say with false confidence in my voice.
We nominated Yayen to be the keeper of our team as he was big and scary and could therefore cover the whole gate whilst also scaring the competition away. The game started with me in defense and we did try our best, making 1-1 after a few minutes. As we went on to try to score another, to secure the win, Brian trips Jack and he falls. Jack sensing it to be intentional he gets up quickly and pushes Brian back hard. Brian and Jack already had their own infield rivalry on who was the best soccer player in our team. So in my opinion this fight had totally nothing to do with the game but just an accumulation of the already existing anger against each other.
"What's the deal dude, it was a mistake." Brian says looking quite infuriated.
"Ooh was it?, losing your touch there, Ronaldo" he says sarcastically, definitely teasing Brian. Now they are holding each other by the collar.
"You know what? That's why I have got more girls than you" Brian says over a grimaced face.
Jack bursts into laughter "You mean those rejects no one likes that you share among that little group of yours" he says almost tearing from laughter.
Brian totally aggrieved punches Jack straight in the face and they immediately start fighting. We rush in to try and break the fight.
"Yah right, that's why you have never kissed a girl and your soccer sucks" Brian says as Yayen is pulling him back.
"Ooh really, that's very funny, last time I checked I had more goals than you and as for kissing a girl. How do you know? Are you stalking me? Creep!" Jack says as I'm holding his hands in a lock behind him.
"Who are you calling a creep? You weird gay virgin." and that was the last straw. As a boy, being called gay was considered the most hurtful and disrespectful thing ever, this was fueled by the fact that most of the boys were raised in homophobic environments. Immediately Jack bursts in fury, getting rid of my grip and heading straight for Brian's face with his fist.
He punches him mercilessly on the face and as he is about to do it again, we notice Mr Stevens car passing through the gate. The school grounds were on the left side of the school gate. Every one leaves Jack and Brian and they just stare at each other.
"We will finish this later" they both say in unison. People agreed to finish the match, which we lost as expected. We later played soccer the whole afternoon and only went to the hostel when the sun was going down.
During supper everyone had forgotten about the fight and was rather hyped about the visit tomorrow. People couldn't wait to see their loved ones. At the hostel, my roommates had already ironed their number one uniforms and had thoroughly tidied the room to make an impression when their parents arrived.
CHAPTER 6 .......sneak peek
Its Saturday morning, the day everyone has been waiting for, visit. I'm woken by Jack and Nick arguing on who is playing next on Fifa. Martin and Peter are holding the joysticks and by looks of the display on their laptop, it seems the game was only left with 10 minutes which is about 45 seconds in real time.
"Could you guys just quiet down, I'm trying to sleep here." I shout at them in my sheets.
