Daniel Wright, standing behind Lucy Wright, erupted in fury. "You beast! How dare you say such things?"
Aurora scoffed. "The truth."
She hadn't imagined the woman with Henry Thompson would be Emily Wright.
She had thought it was merely Henry betraying her—out of rage, she'd devised a petty scheme to humiliate him, to satisfy her own bitterness.
But she hadn't foreseen such perfect irony: not only had her fiancé cheated, but the other woman was her own half-sister.
How laughable!
"You!"
The old matriarch, seething with anger, raised her cane as if to strike. Daisy Wright quickly intervened.
"Mother, let's talk calmly. Don't get upset—your health matters."
Then she turned to Aurora, pleading gently. "Aurora, don't provoke Grandma further. Emily did wrong by you. You can punish her however you wish later—beat her, scold her—but Grandma is old. Just apologize, don't argue back, alright?"
Her gentle, obedient manner—if one didn't know better, one might truly believe she was kind.
Aurora curled her lips in derision.
Seeing her expression, Daniel grew even angrier.
"You think you're triumphant now? Dragging your sister and fiancé into the police station, making the Wrights and Thompsons equally disgraced? Do you even remember your own surname?
Emily is at least a celebrity. After today's scandal, how can she show her face? Can she even stay in the entertainment industry? Will our families still associate? Have you thought about any of this?"
Aurora stared at him coldly. "So this is all you care about?"
Daniel froze.
"They're the ones conspiring, yet you blame me? What do you want me to do—pretend I saw nothing? Or generously wish them eternal happiness?"
Daniel was speechless. After two seconds, he snapped, "If you weren't so incapable of keeping a man, would someone steal him? If you had any worth, would he leave you for your sister? You never reflect—only blame others, just like your good-for-nothing mother!"
Aurora flinched.
Staring at her father, shouting in rage, she felt disbelief.
Five years ago, Daniel had an affair. Daisy arrived with Emily, stepping boldly into the home—only then did Aurora learn she had a half-sister, barely six months younger.
Her mother couldn't bear it. She drove into the river, and the car was destroyed.
The Wrights, fearing scandal, sent Aurora overseas, abandoning her.
Those years, without her mother's small inheritance, she would have died.
She'd always known her father and grandmother disliked her mother, but she never thought they'd slander her even in death.
A chill gripped her heart. After a moment, she gave a mocking laugh.
"Yes, I'm truly incapable. After all, I don't have a mother who's a professional homewrecker. I can't inherit her talent for seducing men. But Emily—'outshining the master'—I've seen it firsthand."
Daisy's face turned deathly pale.
Daniel exploded. "What are you babbling?"
"You know exactly what I mean!"
"You—"
"Enough!"
The old matriarch suddenly barked. Daniel, still fuming, was about to retort when Daisy tugged his arm.
They looked down the hall—Eric Thompson was leading Henry and Emily out of the interrogation room.
Eric's face was grim. Henry and Emily looked no better.
Emily clung to Henry's arm, her delicate face full of suppressed sorrow, eyes red from crying—utterly pitiful.
The group rushed forward. "Emily! Are you alright?"
Emily shook her head. "I'm fine."
Then she looked at Aurora, standing apart.
"Sister."
She stepped forward, voice trembling with guilt and fragility. "I'm so sorry—I didn't expect you to come… Henry and I… it wasn't intentional. Please forgive us."
Aurora stared coldly, expressionless.
Eric sighed. "We Thompsons have wronged you. But it's done. Name your compensation—we'll meet it."
Aurora laughed coldly. "Compensation? Are you trying to buy me off?"
Eric's face darkened, guilt flickering in his eyes.
He turned and glared at Henry. "You disgrace! Explain yourself!"
Henry, reluctant, glanced at Aurora, then approached under his father's glare.
"Aurora, we're not right for each other. Let's end the engagement."
Aurora trembled.
Her heart felt like a dull blade cutting slowly—aching.
She knew the outcome, but hearing it still brought sorrow, a coldness rising.
She looked at him, lips curling, eyes tinged with red.
"Henry, how long have we been together?"
"Six years."
Six years? Hah.
So six years ended like this.
Caught in the act, no remorse, no apology—just a cold "we're not right."
Something shattered inside. She sneered, without hesitation. "Fine. I agree."
Henry was stunned.
He frowned. "You mean it?"
"End the engagement. But I want the three subsidiaries Thompson Group just acquired—as compensation."
"What? Are you mad?!"
Before Eric or Henry could speak, Daniel roared.
Aurora shot him a cold look. "Not even in-laws yet, and you're already defending them? Must you be so undignified?"
"You—"
"Enough."
Eric raised his hand. "I accept. Bring the other half of the marriage contract, and I'll transfer the companies."
"Deal."
Eric left with his lawyer. Daniel glared at Aurora, then stormed off with Daisy, supporting the matriarch.
The hallway was empty—only Aurora, Henry, and Emily remained.
She turned to leave. But Emily's voice rang out.
"Sister!"
Her path was blocked.
Emily's face was pale, tears like rain on a white blossom, trembling as she grabbed Aurora's arm. "Sister, I'm sorry! I never meant to love Henry! Punish me—hit me, scold me—just don't hate me!"
