Whatever May Come

SILAS' POV:     "It truly is a shame you won't stay to  hang out with an old man as you kids call it." Leo chuckled giving me a warm hug.      "My apologies Leo. I will start coming around more often. You are always welcome to visit us as well." I laugh returning the embrace.      "Oh, believe me, in the upcoming weeks you will be sick of us." Adria laughed as she nudged Leo in the ribs. "My love, they have such a long journey back. They must be tired. Let them leave in peace."      I laugh. "He has always been a sentimental old man."      He laughed patting me on the back. "Alright now, I will not be attacked in my own kingdom. Get on out of here kiddos." He playfully dismissed us as we got into the car. "I would expect that from Silas, but Adria, my queen. Not you too!"      I chuckled slightly as the car pulled off. I watched them as they had vanished from sight. I had decided to send the driver home ahead of us, he was a bit skittish after the rogues had attacked us on the border. So I had him bring the car to me and one of Harlow's coven come to teleport him home. Leo offered several times to have someone escort us, but I am not a big fan of making a big deal about my presence. I preferred doing it myself or having one of my soldiers and dearest friends behind the wheel.       I reached over to hold Blakely's hand but she seemed so far away. "My love? Is something on your mind?"      She looked at me. "Forgive me. I was just overthinking things again. My curiosity and such." I always forget how she grew up. So sheltered. I couldn't help but smile. She was so cute when her curiosity peaked.      "Nonsense love. Any questions I could answer?" I smiled as I kept my eyes on the road.      She sighed. "Maybe. If Leo has so many children, and each of them has their own strong pack, and all of them will be coming down in a few days, who will stay here to ensure the safety of their kingdom?"      I chuckled a bit. "Baby, is that all? That isn't hard to answer at all my dear. You see, Leo has an advisor as would every king, but the advisor is not his Beta as many would think. Typically the advisor doesn't belong to a pack as he is needed 24/7 at the palace and most packs go on missions and such. The advisor steps in when the king and all other royal packs have left the kingdom whether it be for one reason or another. The advisor sees over the royal army and ensures that the kingdom is safe from enemies during the royal family's absence."     She smiled a little. "Oh, I see. They don't have a pack so when the King needs them they can be there with no interruption. The wolves seem to run things so differently."      "Yes, they do love. You will learn everything you need to know about all sorts of kingdoms in due time as the Queen of Ambrogio." I said kissing her hand gently.      She smiled and watched out the window, a slight blush creeping to her cheeks. God, she looked so beautiful in this lighting. If only we could spare the time to sightsee on our long trip home. Maybe once this is all said and done we will.  2 DAYS LATER     As we arrive at the castle, I can't help but find myself a bit relieved to be home. Visiting Leo was fun and all, but I hate that long trip, I always have and probably always will. Blakely seemed about as antsy to get out of this car as I did. After all, she did finally have people here who she grew up with, she was probably excited to sit down and see them. I got out of the car and rushed around to open her door for her.      "I never thought I would be so happy to be home in my life." She laughed as she rushed out of the car.      "Trust me, my love. I feel the same." I said following her inside. As much as I wanted to rest, I needed to know how the girls' visit to Akasha went even more. "Go have Thana make you a snack real quick my love, I will meet you after I speak with Harlow."      She nodded and skipped off in the direction of the kitchen as I walked toward my office where I knew Harlow would be waiting for me.      She smiled as she stood by my desk. "It is good to see you have made it home safely."      I laugh. "Don't pretend you didn't know I would make it back."      She smiled widely. "Of course I did or I would have never let you go. Now, on to business matters, I suppose?"      I nod tiredly. "No rest for the king I guess."      "There will be plenty enough time for that when this monster is stopped." She said as she took her seat.      I took the seat in front of her. "Well, Leo will be sending all of his children, as well as their packs, him and his own in a few days. Adria will indeed be joining them. A shadow elemental could give us the unseen advantage we need. No pun intended." I say laughing at my dad joke.     She shakes her head rolling her eyes at the joke. "That is good to hear. Adria is powerful in her own right. Not to mention the packs of the heavenly alphas are a force to be reckoned with." She leans back seemingly at ease with the force I have brought to the table. "Queen Aradia has agreed to join the battle as well. She will be coming with her forces in a few days as well."      "That is great news. It seems we have covered our bases for the time being. Blakely will need to continue her training tomorrow. I want her to take today to rest. The trip was a bit...trying for her." I said watching Harlow.      "I bet it was. Leo's children are...what's the word? Ah yes, headstrong." She laughed leaning back.      "That is not the word I would use for it. But if the shoe fits." I laugh rolling my eyes playfully.      "I am sure they will grow to love her. And if they don't, their opinion of your bride does not matter." She reassured me.      I nodded as I rose from my seat. "I am going to go spend some much-needed relaxation time with my bride," I said before leaving my office.      While our chances of actually pulling this off grew, I couldn't seem to shake the doubt off. I couldn't lose her. Failure is not an option. Everett has to die. He has to be dethroned or our whole life, our happily ever after could be jeopardized. As selfish as it sounded, all of this was for her sake...or was it for my own? So I could keep her to myself? So I could claim my revenge as well as keep my bride? I thought as I walked into the kitchen.      "Hey, my love. Did everything go as hoped?" She smiled as she ate half a turkey sandwich.      "Of course baby. Everything is going to be just fine." I smiled kissing her on the head. Let whatever may come, I will be the end of his reign.
