Chapter Eighteen

1152 Words

The void spread all around her in all directions. Darkness without end. It was disorienting. There was no up. No down. Nothing to use to orientate herself. But in a way it was also not that bad. Violet floated in a vast sea of nothingness. Here there were no expectations. No who relied on her. Depended on her. No one to let down. No decisions to make. Here no one would die because of her. Like Mason had. One name among many. But that didn’t matter here. Nothing did. Or maybe she just wanted to believe that. Seeking comfort in nonexistence was likely an unhealthy coping mechanism but Violet didn’t really care and dismissed the thought. As she continued floating and her eyes adjusted to the darkness Violet saw shadows shifting within it. Tendrils of inky blackness spreading around her.
