Chapter 3 Losing Him

Chapter 3 The next morning Arabella woke up very early. It was 4am when she checked the time on her phone. The thing is she didn't sleep too well last night. She was restless. She decided to wake up even if it was still early. She brushed her teeth and washed her face then went to make herself a cup of coffee. She opened the files yet again to try and see what happened to the money. She sat there for at least an hour looking through the files. After finishing her first cup of coffee, she went to make another one. It's like she was getting obsessed about this whole thing, but all she wanted the most was to clear her name and she can't rest until she does that for herself because if word got out that she stole money from her dad's company, who would dare hire now? She heard her door getting unlocked. She knew it was her fiancée Brian. When they got engaged they gave each other spare keys to their apartments incase one of them wasn't home. It was easier and convenient that way. "Hey." She greeted him going towards him then wrapped her arms around him. "I'm so happy to see you babe." She said to him. He slowly pushed her back not hugging her back and that alarmed her because Brian was an affectionate man. He would never turn down a single hug from her. "Arabella I've just come back from the office to see you and your father tells me that you stole money from the company. It's chaos over there. Everyone is running around like headless chickens because of you. How do you do something like that to your own father?" He asked, backing away from her. "I didn't do it Brian. I swear. I didn't steal from my father. The money went missing and I don't know how that happened. That's what I'm trying to figure out." She defended herself. It seemed like it was something she was going to do a lot lately. "So the money just disappeared, without your knowledge. I can't believe that you expect me to believe that crap. I never thought that you of all people would do this." Brian had a disgusted expression on his face. "Brian please... I didn't do it. You have to believe me." She went towards him but he backed away her again. "You won't even acknowledge the fact that you did wrong. You're a fraud and I can't believe that I wanted to marry you. I don't want to get married to a fraud. I'm calling off the wedding." He firmly said. Arabella felt like her whole world was crushed. "Brian, please believe me. I didn't do it baby." She walked towards him again and held his hands looking into his eyes. All she saw was disappointment. He hated her for something she didn't do. "Please don't let this get in between us. Don't let this misunderstanding tear us apart. I love you and I'll prove to you that I'm not a fraud." She plead to him hoping she'll see that she was being truthful. "I'm done with you. If you can do this to your own father imagine what you can do to me." He harshly said removing her hands from his. She literally got on her knees begging him not to leave her. He's her soulmate and they've been through so much together. She couldn't just let him go without a fight. Tears were streaming down her cheeks at this moment. She was losing the man she loves with all her heart. He was supposed to support her through this, not break off their engagement. "Goodbye Arabella." He left her on the ground, crying her eyes out and walked out the door. How does she lose so much in so little time? She felt like a piece of herself just died when Brian walked out that door. She curled up on the floor still in tears. Abi came over minutes later and she found her bestfriend curled up on the floor and she panicked kneeling in front of her. "Bells what's wrong? What are you doing on the floor? Are you okay?" She asked helping her up from the floor. They sat on the couch and she continued rubbing her back but she couldn't calm down because she was too upset about this whole heartbreaking ordeal. "He left me Abi... he doesn't want to get married anymore." She shortly said feeling her throat close up. "Oh Bells, I'm so sorry my friend. Did he say why he doesn't want to marry you anymore?" Abi asked. "He believes the lies that were said about me stealing the money. He called me a fraud. He doesn't want a thief as a wife." She sobbed. "Bella please calm down. You're no thief and Brian should know that. Let's get you to bed so you can rest a little. Being this upset isn't good for you and you know that. We don't want what happened last time to happen again." Abigail got up and went to fetch her sleeping pills so Bella can rest her mind a bit. Bella has anxiety, so being too upset is not good for her. "I don't want to rest, I want to talk to Brian. I can't lose him. Not like this." She wiped off her tears then went to fetch her phone from her bedroom and dialed his numbers sitting on her bed. It never rang. It went straight to voicemail. "Brian, my love please call me back or text me. I have to tell you my side of the story which is the truth. Please call me as soon as you get this okay? I love you babe." She left him that voice message. She placed her phone on her bedside table and looked at her best friend. Abigail was just standing at the door not knowing what to say to make Bella feel better. Bella finally took her friends advice to sleep this off. She was right, her mind needed to rest so she took the sleeping pills. Three hours later she woke up feeling tired but better. Abi wasn't in sight. Her phone alerted her of a text message. She quickly took it thinking that it was Brian but it wasn't. She was very disappointed to see that it was only an insurance policy message. Those annoying messages. She dialed Brian's numbers again and this time it rang. "What do you want Arabella?" That was the first thing he asked her when he answered his phone. He sounded pissed. "Brian, I need to see you babe please. We can talk about our engagement, please don't call it off babe. I have a plan to clear my name. Just give me sometime to gather evidence that I wasn't involved in all of this. Don't leave me please my love, I can't live without you Brian." She cried out to him. "I still can't believe that you won't admit that you're wrong. You want to gather fake evidence so you can lie to me more?" He asked her harshly. "Arabella please be honest with me. Tell me the truth." He added. "Brian you know me. I can never do such a thing. Especially to my father. I know he can be hard on me sometimes but I can never do this to him. Ever! I swear." Arabella made her plea but he wasn't buying it. "I was expecting you to be honest with me but you're feeding me more lies when the truth is all out in the open. You're lucky your father isn't pressing any charges. Please do me a favor, don't call me or text me or leave me voice messages ever again. Goodbye!" He said that with total harshness in his voice. "Brian wait... Please don't hang up I-... Hello? Hello?" He hung up on her. Thinking that he'll never forgive her for this incident, that wasn't even created by her, made her so sad. It felt like her heart was being curved with a knife.
