The United Arab Emirates is a beautiful country. There is a village-like town located in the heart of the country’s capital, Abu Dhabi. This town is called Al Ain.
Al Ain is a green city. There are many forests and other sites of greenery.
The most popular school in Al Ain is Junior School. Although known as Junior School it is from KG to grade 12.
I, Waqas, am a grade 12 graduate from Junior School. So is my former best friend, Hassam. Why do I say former? Because Hassam has a deep, dark secret.
He revealed this secret to all of us friends, but not to his lover, Vei.
But before divulging this secret, let me tell you how it came to be.
After us four friends, namely me, Hassam, Ali, and Shahwath graduated from grade 12, all of us were ready and planning to go to university.
Look, there’s a reason why we chose our universities. Ali and I decided to stay in the UAE though not in Al Ain specifically. Shahwath opted for Romania. And finally Hassam did not choose but the program was chosen for him.
His older sister Hassa advised their father that the best place for Hassam to become a medical doctor was China.
This would end up becoming the worst advice of Hassam’s entire life.
In China, there is a medical university known as Hubei Medical University, and it is rated one-star by most former students. Even Hassam’s sister Hassa did not get a job in the UAE after graduating from this university.
China is a developed country but even as a prosperous nation, there are good and bad universities.
Before departing for China, Hassam was the shyest boy I ever knew. He was not even confident enough to order food if the cashier happened to be female.
So, it becomes even more surprising that such a shy guy got into a relationship with a beautiful Chinese girl.
“So, your sister is still studying at that university?” I asked Hassam.
We were on our way to pick up Ali and Shahwath from their homes.
“Yeah, she is in her final year.” Hassam replied.
“Oh, so she is much older than you?”
We stopped at Ali’s house. As usual, Ali was late to our arrival.
“Yeah, she is four years older than me.” Hassam answered.
Finally, Ali appeared and entered the backseat of my Renault Duster.
“Next stop, Shahwath, right?” Ali asked after we all had exchanged pleasantries.
Hassam and I nodded in unison. We were off to pick Shahwath then on to our next and final destination of the night: the airport.
