Chapter Three : The Boom Of Hope

348 Words
It was a quiet morning when the news came ,gentle sunlight filtering through the grand windows of the Delacroix estate, the kind of morning that promised something new. Mrs. Delacroix sat in her private lounge, a place filled with books she rarely read and orchids she never watered, waiting for the results with fingers clenched so tightly the knuckles turned pale. Then the door opened. The doctor stepped in, eyes warm and cautious. “Congratulations,” he said softly, “you’re going to be a mother.” For the first time in years, Mrs. Delacroix didn’t reach for composure. She wept not out of sorrow or shame, but from a joy so raw it shook her carefully curated world. She placed her hands gently on her belly, still flat, and whispered words only she could hear: “You chose me.” News spread fast. Mr. Delacroix, usually buried in briefings and backroom politics, came home early that day. For once, he truly smiled as he held his wife close. Staff across the estate celebrated quietly, offering knowing nods and hushed blessings. For a fleeting moment, the mansion was alive with hope. Pregnancy transformed Mrs. Delacroix. The woman once seen as cold and distant now radiated a softness that stunned everyone around her. She began to hum to herself, touch her belly when no one was watching, and talk about the future with a glimmer in her eyes. Her steps grew lighter, her laughter more real. The couple who once moved like strangers began dining together again. They discussed baby names, nursery colors, and imagined lullabies. For the first time in years, the Delacroix house felt like a home warm, expectant, whole. The gossip faded. Society now praised her glow, envied her strength, admired her persistence. She had won, they said. The perfect family was finally forming. What no one knew was that Mrs. Delacroix wasn’t just pregnant with a child. She was pregnant with purpose, with redemption, with the desperate hope that this child would finally give her the love she never knew how to find in herself.
