CHAPTER 3. Annoying Siblings

SARAH'S POV Then I looked back to Pauline, trying to get some hint if this beautiful long-tongued beside me tried to betray me, but she slowly shook her head negatively. "Well, I only thought about it since, as far as I can recall, you always rejected anyone who asks you out before, not until now that Pauline mentioned it." He explained. "What is it with you, then? Are you hoping that Sarah might be attracted to you?" Pauline asked her brother, trying to convince me. "No, I didn't say that, but if so? Can't blame her." Shrugging his shoulders, looking at me again in the rearview mirror, grinning. "Don't hold on to yourself too much, brother, and how can she be attracted to a jerk like you?" she asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest rolling her eyes. I just smiled and shook my head in disbelief. "Why? Don't you want her to be your sister-in-law?" "Of course I do! I just can't bear to imagine her suffering because of having you for the rest of her life." "That will not happen for sure. Just think about how she endures, having you around." He retorted, grinning, mocking his sister more. "Guys, could you please stop it or mind changing the topic instead of me?" I asked, looking between them, but I guess they rather like to shut up instead. Pauline busies herself with her phone while Peter keeps his focus on driving until Peter's phone rings. It's Andrew. "Yes, brother?" Peter answered. "Hi, Andrew!" Pauline cried out. We all heard him since Peter put the call on a loudspeaker. "Hi, Pauline! How are you? I hope Sarah behaves well." He said, sounds mocking. "All good. Thanks for asking," Pauline replied. "No, I'm not. Actually, I'm just waiting for a chance to jump off from this car." I complain, acting annoyed. "You can't fool me, little sweet. I know you're not brave enough to jump off and hurt yourself." He said, laughing, and the siblings laugh as well. "Whatever," I mumbled annoyingly. "Alright, see you later. Take care, guys!" "Thanks, Bro!" Peter said and hung up. We continued our journey silently, and after a few minutes, my eyes darted to a clothing boutique and thought of buying something for mom for their trip. "Peter, can we stop by for a moment?" I asked. "Sure beauty," "What is it?" Pauline asked. "I just wanted to buy something for mom for their trip." "Alright, let me come with you." She offered and was about to step out of the car, but Peter stopped her. "Pauline, you stay here, and I'll come with Sarah." He said, and I saw him winked at his sister. "Fine, you go, I'll stay." She agrees, and Peter steps out of the car as well. "Let's go?" He asked, smiling. "Are you sure? You might just get bored," I asked, looking up at him, but he just smiled. "Not a problem," he insisted. I enter the boutique with Peter following behind me. I look around where everything is beautiful, making it hard to decide which one to choose. "Sarah," Peter called me out, and I turned to look up at him. "Yes?" I asked. "I'm just wondering if Pauline is telling the truth, or she is just making an excuse to attend that party she is talking about?" He inquired, looking seriously into my eyes. I take a deep sighed before answering, "No, it's not, but you are right. I am attracted to an older man, and with a stable career, he is also smart, handsome, and tall," I admitted and turned away, while Peter keeps on following behind me. "Really? Do I know him?" He impatiently asked, but I did not answer and just kept looking until my eyes darted a beautiful shoal. "Sarah?" He insists. I frustratedly sighed and turned before I speak again. "And also, Pauline is right. The man doesn't like me back. He already loves someone else." I let out and swallowed the lumps in my throat. I don't know why I am telling this to him or maybe just because I am so upset. I am walking towards the counter to pay for the item, but Peter stops me again. "Sarah, wait," he said, holding my arms. I turned to look up at him, waiting for what he would say or ask again. "You are wonderful. You don't have to pursue or to wait for someone who cannot provide the attention you deserve." He told me like a brother, giving his sister a piece of advice. 'Cute.' I thought. "Thank you, but I'm fine, don't worry about me. I understand everything. Probably one day, I'll be able to give attention to someone else when I'm ready." I confidently said while smiling sweetly at him. Peter suddenly became quiet, gawking behind me. I knew he liked me. I learned about it when I accidentally overheard his conversation with Andrew, asking if I liked the flowers he sent to me. Though I love flowers and appreciate them, it doesn't change the fact that I am not interested in someone else aside from my brother. "Peter! Let's go!" I called out for him after paying the product to the cashier, and he started striding out of the store. "What did you buy?" Pauline asked when I got inside and showed her the bag with the beautiful shoal inside. "It is so pretty! Your Mommy Elena will like it for sure." She commented. "Brother, what did you buy?" She turns to Peter when he also gets inside. "Why you asked? Do you think I bought you something? Not going to happen, darling," he mocked his sister again, and Pauline just rolled her eyes while I only chuckle softly. We continue our journey going home until he stops the car in front of our house. Pauline hugged and kissed me goodbye. "Say hi to everyone for me, and don't forget about the party later." She reminded me and winked at me. "Sure," I said, laughing softly. "Thank you for picking me up, Peter. I hope I didn't bother you too much," I said, smiling. "There's no problem, anytime." He said, smiling. "Alright, so you guys take care. Okay?" I said, stepping out of the car, and I waved goodbye to the siblings. I walk toward the house, and mommy Elena notices my presence and comes out from the kitchen. She gives me a peck on the cheek and hugs me, so I do. "How's your day, sweetie?" She asked, cupping my face with her soft hands. I really love her tenderness with me. "Well, honestly, I am feeling sad that you'll be gone for days, but it's okay. I just missed you already just by thinking about it now," I said, smiling, holding my mother's hands. "Don't worry, I'll make sure to call you every single day," she said and kissed my forehead. Yeah, that's how she loves me, and I love her too, so much. I am so lucky to experience this kind of mother love even though my real one is no more. She's always gentle and thoughtful to each of us in the family and the best part? We never come home without delicious food on our table. "What is this?" She asked when I handed her the paper bag with my present. "Just a simple gift, so you will always be going to miss me." "You are truly the sweetest dear, thank you," she said, giving me her warmest hug. "You're welcome, Mom." "Come on. Go up already and get fresh." She ordered. I smiled and pecked her cheek one more time before going up.
