The alley was really scary now the walls felt like they were closing in on Maya as Jaxon took another step closer. Maya's back was against the wall. She could not breathe and her breath was stuck in her throat.
He knows Maya thought to herself. He knows I am Maya.
If Jaxon told everyone who Maya really was, her secret life at Lunar Crest Academy would be over before it even started. Her family would find out that she was training Austin. The bad things from her past would catch up with her too soon.
Jaxon stopped in front of her. He smelled like rain and ozone and the smell of pine and mint was really strong. It was the smell of a rogue Alpha heir. His eyes were burning with an intensity. He looked at Maya's face at her jawline, where her mask was hiding the lower half of her face.
He tilted his head taking a breath.
Maya held her breath, her hand tightening around the can of silver spray in her jacket. The silver on her skin was fading fast. If Jaxon smelled the scent of the Silvertooth lineage she would be in trouble.
"You kick hard, " Jaxon said, his voice low and rough. "I watched you fight. You move like you are fighting a ghost."
Maya stood up straight trying to look tough. She could not let Jaxon see that she was scared. She looked at him with eyes.
"Step back, " she said, trying to sound tough. ". You will be the next one to get hurt."
Jaxon smiled, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "I like it when you are feisty, " he said. ". You did not answer my question." He leaned closer his eyes looking at Maya's body. "What is a high-class wolf doing in a place like this?"
Maya's heart was racing. Palace wolf.
She looked at Jaxon trying to see if he knew who she really was.. He did not say her name. He just smelled the scent of a ranking wolf lineage but he did not know it was her.
He thought she was some rich girl looking for a thrill.
Maya felt relieved, but scared. She had to get from Jaxon right now.
"I do not owe you anything " Maya said, bringing her knee up to kick him.
Jaxon was too fast. He caught her knee, his hand touching her skin.
Then something strange happened. A spark of energy jumped between their skin. Maya felt a pull like her body was being drawn to Jaxons.
Jaxon froze, his eyes changing to a predatory stare.
Maya knew what was happening. She had found her fated mate.. It was Jaxon.
In the morning Maya was in her chemistry class. She was trying to look like herself but she could not stop thinking about what had happened with Jaxon.
The door to the classroom. Jaxon walked in. He looked tired and frustrated like he had not slept all night.
Maya kept her head down pretending to take notes.. She could feel Jaxons eyes on her.
Jaxon walked up to her desk, his shadow falling over her. Maya's heart was racing.
"Hey Princess " Jaxon said, his voice dripping with disdain. "Move your chair forward. You are in my light."
Maya felt a surge of anger. Why was Jaxon being so mean to her?. She just looked up at him with scared eyes.
"I am sorry Jaxon, " she said. "I will move."
Jaxon scoffed, sitting down behind her. Maya turned around, her eyes hardening. She was going to play along with Jaxons game.. She knew that she had to be careful. Austin would be coming to the academy soon. Maya had to be ready.
