The oak doors were. Lying on the marble floor. Jaxons group moved into a defensive position. They were not wearing the clothes that the students at the academy wear. Instead they had on leather and dark gear. They looked like they were ready to fight.
Alpha Silvertooth took a step back. His long robes made a swishing sound. "Jaxon, you are a student, " he said. "This is a matter for the Silvertooth family. You do not have the right to be here."
Jaxon's voice was low and scary. "I am the leader of the Blackwood Rogues, " he said. He did not look at Alpha Silvertooth. He was looking at Austin. "According to the rules any female wolf who asks for protection on academy grounds is under the care of the ranking leader present. My group is in charge here in Silvertooth. Your power ends now."
Austin was standing still. His eyes had changed from happy to cold and mean. He looked at Jaxon's claws and then at Maya.
"Asylum?" Austin said softly. He was smiling again. It was not a nice smile. "Maya do you really think that being with these people will save you from the contract you signed? You are giving up a life for a bad one."
Maya stepped out from behind Jaxon. She was not afraid of Austin anymore. Her inner wolf was strong and powerful. "I am giving up prison for my freedom, Austin, " she said. She looked at Thomas, who was holding the cuffs. "If you think you can put those chains on me again you will have to come and try to do it yourself."
Austin's smile went away. He was angry now. "Alpha Silvertooth get these people out of here " he said quietly. "Keep your daughter safe."
"With pleasure, " Alpha Silvertooth said loudly. He let out a loud howl and the Silvertooth pack enforcers came into the room. They were big and strong. Their teeth were sharp. Jaxon did not wait. He jumped forward. The sound of fighting filled the room.
Jaxon shouted, "Stay behind me!" He was. Kicking the enforcers.
Maya did not want to be protected. She wanted to fight. Thomas saw that she was not behind Jaxon. He tried to grab her with the silver cuffs. "Come here you little—" he said.
Maya did not run away. She kicked him hard and he fell to the ground. Austin. His eyes were wide with surprise. He realized that Maya was the fighter he had heard about.
"Raven..." Austin said softly. He was angry now. "You have been playing us."
"I am changing the rules, Austin " Maya said. She wiped the rain from her forehead.
Jaxon came to her side. They held hands. The bond between them was strong. It sparkled like lightning. "We are leaving, " Jaxon said. He pulled Maya toward the windows.
"Jaxon, wait! My father—" Maya said.
"He is done, " Jaxon said. His eyes were burning with passion. "My group is holding the line. Vance is coming with big guns. We need to go to Maya."
Austin pulled out a small phone and said, "Lock down the campus! Kill Jaxon. Bring me Maya alive!"
Jaxon did not wait. He broke the window. They jumped out into the cold rain. They fell into the dark forest. They were gone.
