Nerissa I walked into the office the next morning. The usual chatter filled the air, but today felt different. There was an uneasy feeling hanging over the room, and I couldn’t shake the sense that something was wrong. Just as I sat down, my boss called me into his office. My stomach twisted with nerves; the last time he did this, it was for a performance review, and I’d only just managed to pass. “Nerissa,” he said, his voice serious. “I need to talk to you about a transfer.” My heart sank. I knew what that meant. I’d heard the rumors, but I was hoping they wouldn’t be true. “You’re being moved to the top floor. Black Industries has merged with us, and they want you working directly under Mr. Blackwood.” I nodded, even as I clenched my fists. Damn Blackwood. I had only just started my life here and he was already set out to ruin it. Coupled with the fact that I was hiding his baby. I went to the bathroom to clear my head, hoping to shake off the anxiety. As I leaned over the sink, two coworkers came in, their voices low, but I could still hear them. “Can you believe it? Black Industries merged with us. It’s awful,” one of them said, sounding annoyed. “Their CEO is ruthless,” the other replied. “I heard he doesn’t take no for an answer.” I splashed water on my face. Just why wouldn't he leave me alone? It was just one night of mistake. I clutched my bag tightly, as if holding it could calm the storm of worry inside me. With a heavy sigh, I headed up to the top floor. The elevator ride felt like it took forever, each ding making my nerves worse. When I reached the top floor, I hesitated outside the office, trying to steady my breathing. I took a deep breath, then walked in. “Miss Nerissa Blake,” I introduced myself, trying to keep my voice calm, even though my stomach was in knots. The receptionist looked up and smiled politely. “Welcome! Mr. Blackwood is expecting you. Go right in.” My heart pounded as I approached his office. I knocked softly and stepped inside. There he was—Mr Blackwood—sitting behind a huge desk that seemed to show his power. His dark hair fell just above his eyes, and his expression was both relaxed and commanding. “What do you think you’re doing?” I blurted out, my anger bubbling up before I could stop it. I leaned over his desk, my hands pressed down hard, my frustration clear. He looked up, his gaze sharp, and I felt my heart race even faster. “Nerissa,” he said, a smirk on his face. "It's so nice to see you again." “This isn’t funny!” I snapped. “You have no right to transfer me like this. I’d rather quit than work for you!” His smile was still on his face, though his expression was now a little cold. “Really? Even if I’m offering you a chance to make a hundred times what you left on the table five years ago.” I froze, surprised. His words hit me like a wave. The anger I felt was replaced by the weight of what he was saying. A hundred thousand bucks every month? For working as a secretary. It was too good to be true. But my mind began to make the calculations, I could start saving for Luke's university and other stuffs too. He stood up and moved closer, trapping me between him and the desk. His presence was overwhelming. “You can’t run away from me, Nerissa.” I looked up, he must be crazy if he thinks I am walking away from a hundred thousand dollars. “I’m not going anywhere, but you better keep your promise,” I said, my voice steady. His smirk widened, a mix of charm and confidence. “So, money is what you want?” I raised an eyebrow, keeping my cool. “No one says no to money, Mr Blackwood” I replied with a forced smile. If I could also make him think I was only interested in his money, he might back off I needed to be careful. Mr. Blackwood leaned in closer, the tension thick in the air. “You underestimate the power of money, Nerissa. It changes everything. And I have enough money to do that” I met his gaze, letting him see that if he wasn't going to leave me alone, I wasn't going to run away from him. Instead he would be the one to run. “Maybe it does, but you should know—I’m not just a pawn in your game.” He chuckled softly, a hand gripping my jaw. “Oh, but you already are. You’re here because I want you here.” And with that, he smashed his lips on mine.
