As the Red Lambo steered into the auction house parking lot, the CEOs and dignitaries who were present gasped at the ambience.
“Such a clean ride…”
“That’s not a regular Lamborghini”
“It looks like it belongs to a Dyn. I mean, they are the only family who can afford such custom-made products.”
Everyone had something admirable to say about the car until Ash emerged in his million-dollar beige suit, and their jaws dropped in shock.
“Who is that guy? I've never seen him in our circle.” Mr Fredrick Young, CEO of Frey Wines, broke the whispers.
Just then, Mabel and her new boyfriend, Steve Whyte, walked out of the auction auditorium, Zara tagging closely behind them.
“Ash!” Mabel snapped, moving swiftly towards Ash, fury in her eyes.
“What are you doing here?
Can't you leave me alone already?”
“The last time I checked, this wasn't Stone's territory so I owe you no explanation”
“Shut up, Ash!” Steve Whyte bolted from behind, pulling Mabel behind him. “No one talks to my fiancé like that”
“Really, Mabel,” Ash scoffed.
“This,” pointing at Steve, “was the best you could do after you divorced me?
And love made me think you had taste.”
“At least he's not a bastard!” Zara cut in. “Do you have any idea who he is?”
“What's so special about being the heir to the Whyte Clan?”
“A whole lot!”
“Let me guess the first… They go after women as they are too timid to have theirs. Too bad.” Ash sighed and walked past them into the auction auditorium.
The little crowd followed suit but stopped in their tracks when they saw that Ash was headed for the VIP seat.
“Ash, where do you even think you are? An orphanage?” Mabel began. “This is the Dyn cartel auction house and you don't belong anywhere around here, let alone having a VIP seat.”
“I mean,” Steve added, “my family is hosting this auction but I wasn't allowed to have a VIP seat, so who does this scumbag think he is?”
“Anyone who could pull up to an auction with such a ride is sure able to afford a VIP seat,” Harry Ghord, CEO of Eden luxury estates, said softly before he proceeded to have a regular seat.
“Come to think of it, where's your invite Ash?” Mabel asked. “You don't have any, do you?” She whispered.
“Even if he does, babe, it's not a VIP pass. Let him go ahead and get the embarrassment that he deserves from the Dyn's.” Steve said as he led Mabel by the waist towards the regular seat.
Ash proceeded to the VIP seat and the security men there welcomed him with a smile. They had seen the stone of power and couldn't do otherwise.
The crowd gasped as Ash descended into his seat.
CEO Harry glanced at Ash and they smiled at each other.
“Security!” Steve hurried to the men. “You must be mistaken, this man here, is a liar”
“Why don't you come and wear our uniforms since you know how to do our job better than we do?”
“What insolence,” Steve's nose flared and his fists tightened. “I'm going to have you guys fired.”
“Does the godfather know that someone like you is threatening his employees?” Ash looked up at Steve from his seat.
“Well does the godfather know that his security men let a scumbag into their VIP?” Zara snapped from behind.
“Mr Ash, we really respect you, but this lady has crossed the line.”
“Who cares if you guys feel insulted. The main problem here is that Ash is a liar and he should be thrown out. Now!”
“Mr Ash just says the word already. No VIP guest of ours would have received such harassment and been so gentle about it.” The security man said.
“Go ahead then, teach her not to mess with your guests,” Ash said calmly.
Immediately, the security men pulled Zara out of the auditorium and the whispers died immediately.
“Ash, are you going to sit there and watch those men blacklist Zara?”
“Give me a minute and I'll stand while they do so.”
“Ash, how could you be this mean to your family?”
“I beg your pardon?”
Mabel swallowed, her gaze hovering around the floor.
“You should know better Mabel”
“You know being blacklisted by the Dyn Cartel is more like being dead. Ash, you can't just ruin my stepsister's life!”
“I can't?”
“Take her off the blacklist now, you wouldn't have to apologise anymore.”
“Are you aware that the Dyn Cartel wouldn't mind having two names blacklisted instead of one?”
“And who are you to decide that?” Steve got up from his seat.
“You know what, I've had enough of your bullshit and it's high time I put an end to all of it.
I'm calling Ellie right away, let's see how it goes for you.”
A few heads turned.
“Hold on babe,” Mabel smiled, rubbing Steve's tie, “you mean Ellie Ray? Personal assistant to the godfather's personal assistant?”
“Exactly,” Steve smiled proudly as he dialled Ellie's number.
“Hi, Ellie. Sorry to disturb your beautiful day but there's a situation at the Dyn's auction house. Some nobody has been posing as a VIP guest for the past couple of minutes, and your security men have fallen for his tricks.”
“VIP guest?”
“Yeah.”
“I'll be there in three.”
“Thank you,” he smiled as Ellie hung up.
“I told you. I can handle whatever situation,” Steve bragged.
“I trust you, Steve. That's why I chose you as the best man for me.”
Steve leaned closer to Mabel. “I'll also be expecting a little reward tonight,” he whispered as he kissed her neck.
Mabel smiled triumphantly at Ash.
“Look how happy you are, Steve,” Ash began with a smile.
Steve paused.
“You should thank me. I trained her standards low enough for you.”
