Hugo’s POV:
In the morning, Sophia kept to herself. I didn’t want to upset her more than she already was, so I left her to her thoughts. Before I left our den, she kissed me on the cheek, handed me my paperwork, and left. I hung my head in shame. I prayed to the Moon Goddess to help clear a path for us. Silent prayers fall on deaf ears. But yet, I prayed. My Thursday sucked. With Sophia sad and upset, the day seemed cold and long.
It was Friday, and I was at my guard post by the golden doors, as I called it. That’s when I saw Sophia walking by with the most beautiful little girl I’d ever seen. Her eyes were out of this world. Sophia smiled and gave me a little nod. I didn’t move. I stood erect, but I could mind-link. “I’m sorry, I’m not even allowed to blink. I love you.”
