Amelia stepped out of Lucas’ car slowly, clutching her bag tightly against her chest.
“Thank you for bringing me home,” she said softly.
Lucas glanced toward the old apartment building in front of them.
“You live here?”
Amelia nodded awkwardly.
After divorcing Ethan, she lost almost everything.
The luxurious life she once lived disappeared overnight.
Lucas’ jaw tightened slightly as he stared at the building.
The place looked unsafe.
Too quiet.
Too lonely.
Rain continued falling heavily outside.
Amelia reached for the car door handle, ready to leave, but sudden dizziness hit her again.
Her body swayed weakly.
Lucas reacted immediately.
His arm wrapped around her waist before she could fall.
“That’s it,” he said coldly. “You’re not staying here tonight.”
Amelia blinked in shock.
“What?”
“You need rest.”
“I’ll be fine—”
“You almost collapsed twice tonight.”
His tone left no room for argument.
Amelia opened her mouth to protest again, but Lucas had already closed the car door and started driving away.
“Lucas!”
“Sleep first,” he replied calmly. “Argue tomorrow.”
For some reason…
That made Amelia strangely speechless.
About thirty minutes later, they arrived at Lucas’ penthouse.
Amelia’s eyes widened slightly as she stepped inside.
The place was beautiful.
Modern.
Quiet.
Everything about it screamed wealth and power.
Yet somehow…
It also felt lonely.
Lucas handed her a glass of water.
“Sit.”
Amelia obeyed quietly.
Her body was exhausted.
Lucas loosened his tie while watching her carefully.
“You haven’t been eating properly.”
Amelia looked down guiltily.
Stress had made everything difficult lately.
Lucas sighed softly.
Then, unexpectedly, he walked into the kitchen himself.
Amelia blinked in surprise.
“The great Lucas Blackwood cooks?”
Lucas looked back at her expressionlessly.
“I know how to keep people alive.”
For the first time that night…
Amelia laughed.
A small laugh.
But real.
And Lucas noticed it immediately.
A strange silence filled the room after that.
One that felt oddly comfortable.
Later that night, Amelia stood near the guest room window, staring at the city lights outside.
Her hands slowly rested on her stomach.
“Baby…” she whispered softly. “What are we going to do now?”
Behind the half-open door, Lucas stood silently.
And for the first time in years…
The ruthless billionaire felt his heart move because of a woman.
Especially one who belonged to his brother.
