“The nightmares started in the third year,” his voice low and rough. “Kael got tired of showing up every day, trying new ways to break me. When nothing worked, he decided to go for my head. Hypnosis drugs, compulsion spells… anything to force your location out of me. But I held on. Never said a word.”
He paused, exhaling shakily.
I didn’t know what to say. The image of Kael tormenting him, day after day, year after year, just to find me… Why? Obsession? Pride? Some twisted remnant of the bond he’d rejected?
“But I’ll be fine,” Finn added quickly, like he’d read my silence as worry. “Pack doctors said it’s side effects from the drugs. I just need some good rest and time.”
“I’m… glad,” Was all I could manage to say.
