KAEL Every step along the stone hallway sucked me down as though I were quicksand. Pain throbbed in my chest, and no matter how hard I tried to shake it, it was still there. I should have turned her down the moment I f*****g met her! Her whole being haunted me. I could still feel the tremble on her lips when she accepted my rejection. I wanted to turn back, fall at her feet, and beg for forgiveness. The regret slammed so hard, I wanted to collapse my knees and bury my face in the ground. To hell with the Moon Goddess!
