Iris’s Pov
Six years ago, when I told Alpha Liam that I wanted to go to Britain, he wasn't happy about it. He wanted me to stay safely with his pack to give birth to my babies before I even thought about moving away for other opportunities. However, because I kept insisting on raising my children independently, he finally had to agree.
He sent me to Britain to study and supported me with money until I could pay for things myself. Originally, the plan was for me to go back to America and join the Wade Moon pack as soon as I finished school. Even so, Alpha Liam still allowed me to follow my dreams and stay in Britain to work. Because of this, I never imagined he would suddenly ask me to go back for an "Alpha Ball."
It took me a few seconds to fully understand what he was saying. "You want me to go there for you?" I asked.
"Yes," he nodded seriously. "You remember our enemy, the Shine Moon pack, right?"
"The Alpha of the Shine Moon pack has finally agreed to meet and talk about a peace treaty with us," he explained. "Since Alpha is very busy, the ball is our only chance to meet him. Originally, I was going to go to this Alpha Ball myself, but my heart surgery is scheduled for that exact same day here in Britain. If we miss this chance to meet with him, our pack's safety will be in danger. I cannot skip the ball, and I cannot skip my surgery. So, I thought of you. I knew you were the only person who could successfully secure this peace treaty for our pack without anything going wrong."
His face was full of pride and confidence in me, and he had every right to feel that way. When I joined Alpha Benjamin’s Wade Moon pack as his daughter, he had taught me a lot about pack politics and how to survive in the werewolf world. I had learned so much from him, and I was truly eager to pay back his kindness.
Before leaving for my studies, I used to work quietly behind the scenes. I solved old arguments between neighboring packs and the Wade Moon pack, and I even helped the Alpha set up many new peace agreements.
"Iris, the Shine Moon pack is like a dangerous, two-faced snake. They have wanted our lands for tens of years," the Alpha said seriously. "We need this peace agreement, no matter what it takes."
"But Alpha, I'm just an Omega," I reminded him. Being an Omega had felt like a curse my entire life. In the past, I had lost everything simply because of who I was. "How can I go instead of you? It goes against the rules of the Alpha Ball. Besides, I think Sky should be the one to go, not me," I pointed out.
Sky was Alpha Liam’s only son and the next person in line to become the Alpha. When I was pregnant, he and I had become best friends. He was the one who always protected me like a real brother.
"Sky can't go to the ball because he has to stay behind and manage the pack while I have my surgery," Alpha Liam explained. "Besides, I don't trust him to handle this treaty. Sky is too impatient and aggressive. If the Shine Moon pack tries to provoke him, he will just end up starting a war." He looked at me with serious eyes. "You, on the other hand, are calm, incredibly smart, and excellent at negotiating. You are perfect for this job."
"But I am an Omega. They won't let me into an Alpha Ball," I argued, trying to find a way out.
Alpha Liam smiled mischievously. "Who said you would be going as an Omega? You are my adopted daughter. From now on, your identity is the princess of the Wade Moon pack. No one at that ball will dare to look down on you."
I stared at Alpha Liam with my mouth wide open. "A princess?" I asked, completely shocked. "Alpha Liam, do you really think this plan will work? You want to lie to the other Alphas just to get me into the ball? If they find out the truth, it will start a massive fight. The other packs will feel insulted and could declare war on us!"
"Don't worry, my girl. No one will find out," he said, gently patting my shoulder to calm me down. "We just need to get the Shine Moon pack to sign the treaty. Once that is done, you can come right back to Britain. No one will ever know your true identity."
I stared at the golden invitation card in my hands, feeling incredibly conflicted. Returning to America meant going back to the place where I had experienced so much pain and heartbreak. It was a place I had promised myself I would never visit again.
Past and memories in this realm. It was the place that I never wished to return to, but I could not refuse Alpha Liam’s request. He was in poor health and this was the first thing he had ever asked of me. I understood the significant problems the pack would face if the peace treaty slipped through our fingers. So here I was, back in America.
"Mommy," Wyatt and Leo's voices entered my ears. I tilted my head to find their small hands filled with chocolates and snacks. Behind them Beta Ken walked with a handsome smile on his lips. He had come to pick us up in front of the airport, now I understood where he had disappeared to with the kids. He loved Wyatt and Leo just like Alpha Liam.
"Mommy, Uncle Ken bought us these treats. Can we accept them?" Leo chirped.
"Okay, but remember that we are going to behave here. I only brought you two with me because you are not going to kindergarten at the moment and have never been to Grandpa's pack. Promise me that you two will not run around and that you will obey me okay."
"Okay," they both gave a serious nod.
I smiled and looked up at Beta Ken.
"Long time no see, Iris. I am glad you returned," he smiled, walking closer to give me a hug.
"Thank you, Beta Ken," I pulled away and said, "I could have returned to the pack on my own, Beta Ken. You should not have come out here to pick us up with your busy schedule," I stated.
"I am never too busy when it comes to my little Alphas," he grinned, picking up our luggage in his hands.
"Let's go, I'll explain to you about the Alpha Ball while driving."
I nodded. Wyatt and Leo walked with Beta Ken, chattering away. They were walking so fast that I was left behind. I couldn't believe my twins were so happy about visiting their Grandpa's Pack. I shook my head and checked my phone while I continued walking. The Alpha Ball was being held later this evening at a five-star shifter hotel. I decided to go straight to the hotel and prepare for the ball. Just as I was thinking about all of these things, the familiar sharp scent entered my nose, awakening my wolf.
I froze in my tracks as my heart started to drum in my chest. My body turned cold when I found this feeling. Very familiar to me, I slowly lifted my eyes to find a pair of intense green eyes looking right into them. My eyes widened as I took steps back. How could the first person I meet after six years be... Ethan?
"Iris," Ethan whispered my name like a prayer under his breath, his eyes dark and intense. I clenched my fists at my side and turned to walk away. The memories from six years ago when he betrayed me flashed in my mind's eye.

"Iris!" Ethan yelled again, but I did not stop. I heard his wild footsteps behind me, wanting to follow me, but I took advantage of the large cargo that four employees were carrying. It blocked Ethan's path and gave me enough time to vanish from his sight.
"IRIS!!" Ethan screamed like crazy again and again, looking here and there for me.
"IRIS!!!"
"IRIS!!!"
The police came hearing that commotion but no one dared to stop the most dangerous and powerful Alpha and the country's richest man, Reuben. Hiding my scent, I leaned on the bathroom entrance wall with slightly red eyes. My hands were still clenched at my side.
"IRIS!!" He growled at the top of his lungs without caring about the humans around him. My wolf stared into my eyes deep as I heard that six-year-old obsession and craziness in Reuben's voice.
“Why—-- why was he looking for me?”.
