_Chapter 17: Reflections of the Past_

775 Words
Lyra woke up to the familiar glow of her eyes in the dark. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, trying to shake off the lingering fatigue. As she swung her legs over the side of the bed, her mind began to wander back to the events of the previous night. She stepped into the shower, letting the warm water wash over her. As she lathered up her hair, she couldn't help but think about how her friends had convinced her to lighten up. They had been right, of course. She had been so focused on the danger of the Mind Stone that she had forgotten the importance of living in the moment. As she rinsed her hair, she remembered Kael's plan to take matters into their own hands. "We can stop the Valtorians ourselves," he had said, his eyes gleaming with determination. Cormac had agreed, pointing out that they had come too far to turn back now. Lyra's eyes had met Kael's, and she had known exactly what he was thinking. "Yes, we can't stop now," she had said, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "Which is why we're breaking into the professor's office tonight." The others had been shocked, Astrid's eyes widening in dramatic surprise. "Did you say break in? Where's my Lyra?" she had exclaimed, her voice dripping with mock horror. Kael had chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'm in. Anything to find the Mind Stone." Cormac had hesitated, his brow furrowed in concern. "Well, maybe we should rethink this. Not because I'm scared, but because..." His voice had trailed off as the others had started laughing. Astrid had teased Lyra mercilessly, pretending to be shocked by her sudden turn to a life of crime. Lyra had laughed along with the others, feeling a sense of camaraderie that she had never felt before. As she stepped out of the shower, Lyra couldn't help but smile. That was how they had ended up breaking into the professor's office, and now they had a copy of the location of the Mind Stone. She dried herself off, wrapping a towel around her hair. As she walked over to her closet, she felt a sense of determination wash over her. Today was the day they would put their plan into action. But as she got dressed, Lyra couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Why had Professor Nightshade and Eira never tried to find the Mind Stone, even though they knew its location? It had been weeks since the Valtorians had started killing, and yet the professor and Eira had done nothing. "I don't understand it," Lyra said to herself, her brow furrowed in concentration. "They know where the Mind Stone is. They know what's at stake. So why haven't they done anything?" She shook her head, trying to push the thought aside. But it lingered in the back of her mind, refusing to be ignored. "Alright guys, let's review the plan," Lyra said, her voice firm and commanding. "We're all meeting tonight at the old windmill on the outskirts of town. Astrid, you're in charge of stealing supplies, clothes, and food for us to survive at the Raven's Den." Astrid nodded, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I've already started gathering everything we need. We'll be set for weeks." Kael grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "I've got the weapons and gadgets covered. We'll be safe from any Valtorians who might be lurking around." Cormac nodded, his brow furrowed in concentration. "I've arranged for a car to be waiting for us at the windmill. It's equipped with backup tires and a full tank of gas, just in case." Lyra's eyes locked on her friends, her heart swelling with pride. "And I'll be in charge of distracting the professor, Eira, or anyone else who might notice that a copy of the location of the Mind Stone is missing, along with the oldest spell book." The others nodded, their faces set with determination. Lyra felt a sense of unease, though. What were they getting themselves into? But she pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand. "Let's make our way to the Raven's Den now," Lyra said, her voice firm. "Everyone remember your positions. We need to be quick and quiet." The others nodded, their faces set with determination. Together, they set off towards the Raven's Den, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. As they walked, Lyra couldn't help but think about the professor and Eira. What were they hiding? And why had they never tried to find the Mind Stone? She shook her head, trying to push the thoughts aside.
