Chapter 9: "Revelations"*

724 Words
The morning sun streamed through the windows of Lyra's house, casting a warm glow over the four of them as they slept. But their rest was short-lived, as they were soon jolted awake by the urgency of their mission. Rushing to get dressed, they made their way to the Raven's Den, where the rest of the group was gathered. Lyra and Astrid pushed their way to the front, their faces set with determination. "We have information," Lyra announced, her voice ringing out across the room. Astrid nodded in agreement. "We saw something last night." All eyes turned to them, and the room fell silent. Professor Nightshade nodded for them to proceed. Kael took a deep breath before speaking. "Last night, at the allocated location given to us, we saw three packs of wolves and a group of vampires." Cormac's expression turned grim. "They killed a family of four by ripping out their hearts with their bare hands. We couldn't stop them... there were too many." Lyra's eyes blazed with anger. "They were looking for a stone, and it doesn't seem like they'll stop until they find it." Astrid's voice trembled with emotion. "Four innocent people... and we didn't get their town names. They're definitely not from Ashwood." The room erupted into gasps and murmurs, with everyone talking amongst themselves. Professor Nightshade raised his hands, silencing them. "Well done, all of you," he said, his eyes shining with pride. "Your bravery is commendable. At least now we know the attackers' reason... they're searching for a stone." The group nodded, their faces set with determination. They knew they had a long and difficult road ahead of them, but they were ready to face whatever challenges came their way. Lyra gestured for the four of them to follow her to a private place, away from the rest of the group. Once they were alone, she turned to them with a determined look on her face. "We can't just wait around for them to take action," she said, her voice low and urgent. "People are going to keep dying if we don't do something." Astrid nodded in agreement. "I'm with Lyra. We can't just sit back and do nothing." Kael frowned, his eyes clouding with concern. "It's not that simple. We're not exactly experienced in this kind of thing. It's dangerous." Cormac spoke up, his voice calm and measured. "We don't necessarily have to fight. We can just gather more information." Lyra's eyes lit up with excitement. "Yes! That's exactly what we can do." She pulled out a paper map and began to mark places where the vampires and wolves had attacked. As she studied the map, a pattern began to emerge. "Guys, look at this," she said, her finger tracing a path on the map. "They've been attacking in a circular pattern, moving northwards." Astrid leaned in, her eyes scanning the map. "And look, the attacks are getting closer together." Kael nodded, his eyes narrowing. "They're escalating." Cormac pointed to a small town on the map. "What's this place?" Lyra's eyes lit up. "That's Oakwood. It's a small town about 20 miles north of here." Astrid's eyes widened. "And look, it's right in the center of the circular pattern." Kael's eyes locked onto Lyra's. "You think they're going to hit Oakwood next?" Lyra's face set in a determined expression. "Hypothetically speaking, yes. The pattern suggests they're moving northwards, and Oakwood is the next logical target." Cormac nodded, his eyes gleaming with determination. "We need to get to Oakwood and gather more information." Lyra nodded, her eyes locked on the map. "We can't just sit back and wait for them to attack. We need to take action." The others nodded in agreement, and Lyra's eyes lit up with a fierce determination. "We're going to Oakwood," she said, her voice firm. "And we're going to stop them." "We need to meet up and discuss our plan," Lyra said, her eyes locked on the others. "My house, tonight." The boys nodded, and Kael stood up, his eyes locked on Lyra's. "We'll be there." Cormac followed suit, his eyes gleaming with determination. As the boys left, Lyra turned to Astrid and pulled her into a tight hug. "We're going to do this, Astrid," she whispered. "We're going to stop them." Astrid hugged her back, her eyes shining with tears. "We will.
