Riley's breath evened out and her body seemed to relax. She took in a rush of air and grabbed Lucian tight, as if afraid he would develop wings and fly away.
“It's okay, Goldilocks. I'm here. Everything would be fine. You're safe,”
Riley sniffed, raising her head to look him in the face. Then she pulled away from him, her expression giddy. “I'm… I'm sorry you had to see me that way. I just—”
Lucian didn't know how to react or what to do to make her feel better. It was strange. After his breakup with Harper, he had disconnected with emotions, feelings and anything that had to do with women, but right now….it seemed so impossible to turn away from Riley when she was hurting.
