Chapter 6

668 Words
Dr. Austin was enjoying her plate of meatballs for dinner in the dining room. Suddenly, her phone rang up and she proceeded to receive it. But the only thing she could hear was the screams of people and snarling sounds. She also heard a sound that was eerily similar to a chomp. Realizing that the call came from the hospital, she hurriedly finished her dinner and ran out to her car to go to the hospital. Her mind was fearing the worst. She had an unsettling thought that she could be the one responsible for whatever was happening in the hospital. Traffic was literally non-existent as it was close to midnight. She gunned the car up and down ramps, skidded a lot, ran through every red traffic light, and she did everything else that she had never done in her history of driving. Upon arrival at the hospital, she took out the steering lock and held it like a weapon as she got out of the car. She was ready to use it on anyone that came. The hospital looked calm and like usual. However, it is clear that no one should judge a hospital by its looks. As soon as Dr. Austin reached the hospital door, the screams got clearer and louder. The automated glass doors slid open and Dr. Austin looked inside. The scene was horrible. Blood was spattered across the walls, the seat cushions were torn, the lights were hanging, and whatnot. As she went in a little, fear started to latch-up inside her mind. If any zombies start to come towards her, her only option is to run back to her car and leave. Suddenly, a door slammed in the distance and Dr. Austin stopped at once. She listened carefully for any sounds of footsteps. Out of the blue, a zombie came running towards her. Even though the face was badly damaged and half of his eyeball gone, Dr. Austin could still recognize the person. It was her new assistant. He was supposed to stay back to look out for the Zo-20 patients. Dr. Austin screamed in panic and ran into the room nearest to her which was the security headquarters. She got to bash up the head of her zombie assistant before going in and dropped the steering lock which was drenched in blood. As Dr. Austin went into the headquarters, some of the zombies had heard her scream and rushed forward. Dr. Austin turned the lock of the metal doors and immediately blocked it with a heavy table. She turned around and went inside the second room, which is the g*n store. Thankfully, there was a shotgun left and she picked it up, along with a full magazine of bullets. This shotgun was also a custom build so that it can accommodate a magazine. Suddenly, the metal door banged and Dr. Austin knew that they were here. She braced herself. Whatever happened, she must get to her car. She looked into the CCTV monitor and saw that there is only one zombie outside. She decided to leave before any other of the undead came. Slowly, she removed the table and prepared the shotgun. She opened the door slowly, bit by bit. Once the zombie came to view, she fired at its head from a few inches away. The zombie dropped down, not moving at all. Without waiting anymore, Dr. Austin ran to the main entrance. The other zombies must have heard the shot and they would come here. Sure enough, a little later, three zombies came running around the corner behind Dr. Austin. She spun around and shot every single one of them and ran even faster. Once she reached her car, she got inside and put the pedal to the floor. The car went away fast. Dr. Austin was getting calm now. One thing was still disturbing her. Some of the zombies had followed her to the entrance, which means trouble. The zombies now know how to leave the hospital building.
