Chapter 13
My eyes clenched together as I shifted in the comfy mattress that I rested on. I opened my eyes slowly and turned my head to see Tom sitting beside me.
I was in the hospital wing.
Multiple empty beds were aligned against the walls and I could see a door in the corner of the room that read 'Madam Layla'.
"How're you feeling, Cindria?" Tom questioned me while grabbing my hand and resting it on his cold cheek.
I smiled slightly and let out a small cough to clear my voice.
"I'm fine, what happened?" I asked, looking into his dark eyes.
"You fainted after you saw my basilisk," Tom whispered gently. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were still traumatized with what happened a long time ago."
"It's alright, I'm sorry I wasn't able to pet your basilisk, maybe another time?" I said while resting my other hand over his.
Tom shook his head.
"I'm not allowing you anywhere near that place ever again," he said while looking over his shoulder. "You're reaction this time was almost the same as the past, I'm not going to let it happen again."
I bit my lip and remembered what happened years ago.
Couple of Years Ago
"Kids, don't go too far, alright?" Mrs. Coles warned while holding one of the kid's hands. Tom and Cindria made their way down the beach, and besides the ocean.
"Tom? Isn't it beautiful?" Cindria said, opening her hands wide and spinning.
Tom smiled softly at a twirling Cindria, then immediately scowled when he noticed Dennis Bishop and Amy Benson, walking towards them with teasing smiles on their faces.
"Hey ugly! What are you and ugly number 2 doing here?" Amy asked while smirking.
"I think they're in love! Cindria has cooties!" Dennis exclaimed mockingly.
"T-T-That's not true!" Cindria's eyes burned with humiliation.
Tom glared at the kids before coming up with an idea.
"Cindria, come with me," Tom said, grabbing Cindria's hand and walking over to the caves. Like Tom expected, Amy and Dennis followed them, making fun of them along the way.
When they were deep inside the cave, Tom turned around and pulled Cindria behind him.
"Now you're going to see what happens when people decide to mess with me or Cindria," Tom said, the air around them chilling and dropping several degrees.
"W-what are you d-doing?" Amy sputtered clutching to Dennis, who seemed to be equally scared.
Suddenly, snakes began to appear one by one, crawling over towards the two orphan kids.
Cindria grabbed Tom's arm in fear.
"T-Tom? A-Are you doing this?" Cindria asked quietly, pressing herself against his back.
Tom didn't answer, he watched gleefully as the snakes wrapped themselves around the two kids, who were crying, Dennis had even wet his pants.
Cindria held onto Tom like a lifeline, watching in fear as the snakes squeezed the kids painfully, while they cried out in pain. She tried to move, to speak, to do something to be able to help them, but her body was frozen. She could hear their screams in her ears, wondering why nobody was coming to save them.
Tom looked back at Cindria and furrowed his eyebrows when he saw that she was shaking in fear.
"Snake's aren't bad, Cindria, see look," he said while looking at one of the snakes, it immediately turned around and slithered over to them.
Tom wound up the snake onto his arm and turned to look at Cindria. She backed away from him and hit the cave wall, slightly bruising her back.
"NO! DON'T LET IT COME NEAR ME! STAY AWAY FROM ME!" She shrieked when Tom took a few steps towards her.
Tom froze in his spot and realized that Cindria wouldn't begin to like snakes anytime soon. He let the snake go and walked over towards Dennis and Amy stood.
Their eyes were wide, and they were sobbing loudly in pain and fear.
"If you talk to anybody about this, I'll make something worse befall you, is that understood?" Tom hissed.
They nodded their heads and ran when the snakes fell from their bodies. The snakes began disappearing to the back of the cave, and Cindria squeaked in fear when one brushed against her foot.
Tom silently walked over to her and grabbed one of her limp hands. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that snakes scared you so much," he said while pulling her into him, hugging her.
Cindria didn't say a thing, not about how his behavior had scared her, or that she probably wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully again for a while. She just laid her head on his chest and didn't say anything.
The event wasn't brought up again.

Tom sat with me in the hospital wing, until the nurse told me I could leave after taking a relaxing potion. I gulped it down in and sighed when the effects began to kick in almost immediately.
Tom and I walked down the hallways in silence, our hands were interlaced, and the silence was then penetrated when Tom spoke.
"The headmaster is allowing me to stay here in Hogwarts for the summer," he said.
"Really? That's great!"
"I'm going to ask him if he'll allow you to stay as well,"
"Thank you, Tom, that really means a lot. I had no idea where I was going to go when school ended," I said while fixing my robe slightly.
"I would have taken care of you even if they didn't allow me to stay at Hogwarts."
I smiled up at him, blushing slightly at his words.
"Thank you, Tom."
