Out in the corridor, Ethan and Carlotta were both still waiting for her.
“Everything okay?” Ethan asked, somewhat anxious.
Holly forced herself to smile at him. After all, Arthur Madden had made it only too clear that she had to be nice to Ethan, if she wanted to have any future in the Rebellion at all. And besides, none of this was in any way Ethan’s fault. In fact, he’d probably be appalled if he knew about the stunt that Madden had just pulled on his behalf. For Ethan certainly struck her as the sort of person who could make friends on his own and didn’t need Arthur bloody Madden to bully people into being friends with him.
Her expression softened. “Everything’s fine.”
“So he didn’t kick you out?”
Holly just shook her head, too weary to answer.
“Good.” Carlotta nodded approvingly.
