THE WATCHERS

Chapter 6

Heaven weeps the tales do tell, For the youngest son Azazyel

He who found forbidden love, And thereby angered God above

Son of Light, Archangel, Forbidden secrets he did tell

Buried alone and in pain, Buried by his brothers twain

…the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they choose. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also, after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” Genesis 6:2-4.

“Jonah!” Angelica entered the hospital room and threw her arms around her brother, who winced in pain as she hugged him.

She realized it hurt him and released him with deep concern etched upon her features.

Her older brother had been moved to a private room. He had been pondering the events that had taken place in his dream, if it was indeed a dream, when his sister arrived unexpectedly.

Gabriel, having waited in the hallway, now ducked under the doorway as he entered. He stood opposite Angelica near the bed.

Jonah was relieved to see the archangel as smiled weakly.

“You have met him before,” Angelica asked her brother.

“Yes Sis, I will tell you all about it another time.”

Gabriel made a motion with his hand, and the door shut of its own accord. He removed a small crystal vial from his clothing and said, “This is sacred oil which has been consecrated for the healing of the sick. May I give you a blessing, Jonah?”

“Yes, please.”

Gabriel poured a drop of oil from the tiny flask onto his fingertip and returned the container to his pocket. He then gently rubbed the holy liquid into Jonah’s scalp. Gabriel laid his hands upon his head and began to speak in a language they had never heard. The words of the blessing sounded melodious and beautiful. Jonah and Angelica’s hearts were lightened by the sound of the heavenly messenger’s voice.

The archangel said a final word, “Cacama.”

Jonah could feel his wounds healing, and within minutes he felt stronger than before his attack. But it was more than just being made whole. It was as if his senses were heightened and he was more aware of the slight movement of the air in the room, and the temperature. He heard women whispering in the hall outside. It was the nurses speaking quietly to one another about the tall handsome man who was visiting the man who had broken his restraints and who had claw marks across his chest and back. The professor tried to focus his concentration on Gabriel and the voices were silenced. “Thank you so much,” he finally managed to say.

Gabriel smiled and bowed his head humbly.

“What was the language you were speaking?” Angelica asked.

“It is the angelic speach. Adam and Eve were taught how to speak in our tongue in the beginning. But Cain lost this knowledge after his countenance fell, and his speech became rough and beast-like. Yet Seth, the third son of Adam and Eve, passed on this knowledge to his children until the time of the flood and for a time it was still spoken in the early years after the deluge amongst the sons of Noah. But the tongues of men were confounded at the Tower of Babel in after years and the purer speech was lost. Jonah perhaps now you may tell me about what happened to you yesterday?”

The professor seemed to grow panicked thinking back on the memory, “Gabriel, I was attacked by a demon and an angel and…”

“Calm down, take your time and leave nothing out.”

Jonah recounted everything he could remember about the battle with the demon, and Satan, his dogs, and the two good angels.

Gabriel crossed his left arm across his broad chest and grasped his chin with his right hand, deep in thought. “Satan seeks for Azazyel. The demon you talk of fits the description of Cain after he was cursed by God. I do not know how Lucifer has managed to raise the elder son of Adam and Eve from the dead, but that bodes ill. However, we are very fortunate that Afriel and Istar came to your aid, and that she located Solomon’s Ring. The finding of Solomon’s Seal by Afriel is a blessing. Your experience was more than a dream Jonah. Lucifer is aware of you, and he now knows that the ring has been found. I was hoping we could keep that from him.”

“Wait a minute, what is Solomon’s Ring? “Angelica asked.

“Solomon used the ring to control demons and genies. With its power he forced some of the fallen angels to help in building his temple. The band was fashioned by Michael during the war and aided us in ultimately defeating Satan. Michael later gifted the talisman to Solomon the wise. You are descended from Azazyel the archangel, one of my brothers,” Gabriel said.

Jonah and Angelica exchanged wide eyed looks.

“I know this sounds unbelievable. Azazyel is one of the twelve archangels. He was but one of two hundred angels who were sent to earth before the great flood. They were supposed to be observers. In heaven they were called the Watchers, but mortals and giants named them, the Grigori. These stewards sinned by taking mortal wives and for teaching them forbidden secrets. Their children were born as giants and heroes of myth and legend.”

“Did this happen before the flood,” Jonah asked.

Gabriel nodded.

“But how could his bloodline survive the cataclysm,” Jonah asked.

“Raphael and I came and imprisoned the Watchers. But, as an archangel, Azazyel should have set the example. For his crime, we were commanded to bury him alive in the desert of Dudael, but the lands were changed during the deluge, so his tomb was lost. He had taken a descendant of Cain to wife. She was in the early stage of her pregnancy when we captured him. Shortly after we left, Ham, the youngest son of Noah, married her. Thus, she and her mixed-blood child came upon the ark and were saved.

“The descendants of Azazyel sometimes inherit powers unlike other mortals. I have been sent to protect you and to seek your help in finding Azazyel. I hope that in the long years of his imprisonment that he has repented and that he will join our cause in the war against the Devil. However, Lucifer also knows the tale of the Watchers, and he too seeks for our brother in hopes that Azazyel will join him before Armageddon begins.”

“That is incredible,” Jonah stated.

“Get dressed, it’s time to go.” Gabriel directed.

After Jonah came out of the bathroom Gabriel held out his arms and said, “Both of you, hold my hands.”

They grasped his large fingers and in a flash of light they were standing on a beach. The air was cold. It was early September, and snow was falling lightly. There was only an inch or two of the icy, white, powder on the ground further from shore. Angelica and Jonah found themselves wishing they had their coats.

“Where are we?” Angelica asked Gabriel.

“You are just outside the town of Nome, and that is the Bearing Sea.” Gabriel explained, pointing towards the ocean with one finger. The sun was a full, giant, orb above the sea casting its radiant light towards them across its surface as if giving them its blessing. There were some abandoned vehicles, dredges, and old boats along the beach closer to town. North of where they stood there were some rolling hills and behind those some larger mountains.

“Go into town and ask for Aternerk Sangilak.” Gabriel said. The archangel handed Angelica and Jonah each a small pouch of gold nuggets and one of gold dust. In many places, this would seem out of the ordinary, but not in Nome, because most of the people there are involved with mining precious metals. “Use it for what you need, but don’t flash it around.” Gabriel said.

“You are not coming with us?” Angelica asked.

“I have brought you to Nome, but I have been away from Heaven far longer than I prefer. I do not care to spend too much time on the earth, as it is much more beautiful in heaven, but also because of what happened to other angels in the past when they spent too much time here. In the meantime, I want each of you to wear these pendants. Squeeze them tightly and I will come or send another to assist you,” Gabriel said.

The pendants looked like an eye, wrought from gold filigree. The Egyptian symbol for the Eye of RA was set inside of a circle with feathered wings extending out to the sides. The outer part of the pendant was solid gold; the white of the eye was white pearl, and the pupil was a black pearl.

Jonah stated, “The all-seeing eye.”

“Yes, Jonah, you are very learned for one so young.” Gabriel said. “Find Aternerk Sangliak and retrieve the staff of Moses.” Gabriel said. He raised his left hand towards heaven, and in a flash of light, he was gone.

He shall bind thee; Neither shall relief, mercy, and supplication be thine, on account of the oppression which thou has taught; And on account of every act of blasphemy, tyranny, and sin, which thou hast discovered to the children of men. Then departing from him I spoke to them (The Watchers); And they all became terrified, and trembled;…” The Book of Enoch Ch. 13 vs. 1-5.

(3) “Gabriel, one of the holy angels, who presides over Ikisat, over paradise, and over the cherubim.” The Book of Enoch Ch. 20 vs 7.

(4) “Uriel, one of the holy angels who was with me, answered and said: Enoch, why art thou alarmed and amazed at this terrific place, at the sight of this place of suffering? This, he said, is the prison of the angels; and here they are kept forever.” The Book of Enoch Ch. 21 vs 5-6.
