Ryder
Frightened hazel eyes were the first thing I saw the moment the crowd made a path for me to pass. If I looked closer, I could see tears threatening to leak out of her eyes, but I couldn't care less. That was the least of my problems now.
"Elena!" My voice boomed, as it caught everyone's attention. From my peripheral vision I watched a student gulp loudly before taking a step back. " What is the meaning of this nonsense?"
",Ryder!" The white witch cooed, get grip on the girl still tight. " I'm glad you're here. You have to…"
"Let her go." I cut her off, my voice curt and icy. "Now!"
"But you have to…"
"Don't make me repeat myself." She knew better than to defy me. Instantly, I watched her hands drop to her side but not without missing the blood staine that clung to her fingers. With my eyes still trained on the duo, I yelled to the crowd. "Get out!"
And just like that, they disappeared, each student fumbling to get away from me.
"You'll regret this." Elena hissed before sticking her staff into the ground. A cloud of smoke rose and that was the last of the frail old woman. " I promise you."
"Thank you." For a moment, I'd almost forgotten about the girl Elena had just assaulted. I turned to her and she gasped, fear etched into her eyeballs. " I…."
"Save it." I snapped before walking to the other direction. She was new here, I could tell. I knew literally every soul that attended this damned school because they were afraid of me and I wouldn't have it any other way. I shook my head as I let my feet take over, my destination etched in my mind.
The moment I crossed the quad, a lanky figure bumped into me. Almost.
"What is it?" I sneered as he shivered. " Are you blind? Didn't you see…"
"I'm sorry sir." I watched as he fell to his knees immediately. " It's an emergency. You're needed by the Dean."
I paused at his statement. I'd been looking for every means to get to him and now, I'd just gotten the perfect opportunity.

The office stank of damp old papers and I wanted nothing more than to gag. A quick glance at my wrist showed the time to be twelve forth five. I'd been here for almost an hour and yet, the i***t hadn't showed up yet.
"You sure took your time coming in." I snarled the moment the iron door behind me creaked open. I didn't look, it wasn't necessary, his aura made it easy to recognize him. "I've been waiting for hours."
"And I've been waiting for you for days, weeks, months." I trained my gaze ahead as he rounded the corner just to stand in front of the plain white desk separating us both. " But you never showed up. I guess you know how it feels now."
"Why am I here?" I snarled. " I don't have all day."
"Where were you last night?" I held his gaze as the question slipped past his lips. I was expecting it. I'd seen it coming too."Ryder, I'm talking to you."
"It's none of your business." I let put pointedly. " You have no right to ask me that."
"Oh but I do." His smug tone was irritating to say the least. " I am…"
"Not my father." I cut him off. I was up on my feet in no time as I let out again. " And if you have nothing else to say, I'd rather be somewhere else."
"You will not be getting the pack at the initiation ceremony on the next moon." I halted in my tracks, my blood running cold.
"What?!" I whirled at him immediately. " What's that supposed to mean, uncle?"
"Now, I'm your uncle?" He chuckled humourlessly, the gesture infuriating me the more. " It doesn't change anything though, what I said still stands."
"You have no right to…" I paused as he slid a white sheet of paper in front of me. In one swift motion I picked it up just to crumple it all up after I'd read its contents. " This is bullshit!"
"Language." The man in front of me cooed, obviously enjoying every piece of this. " You were raised better than this."
"You have no right to give it away!" I lashed out. " It's my right! I'm to be the next Alpha!"
"But Alphas don't go out causing a menace late at night!" My uncle snarled! " You hurt someone last night. Not just anyone, a kid….
"And that's enough grounds to deny me my right?" I cut him off. " This is pathetic. I'm going to speak with my father."
"That's not going to do you any good." That smug smile was back on his lips and I wanted nothing more than to wipe it away. "Did you read the other part?"
"He can't be serious…"
"Oh but he is." I felt my blood boil deep in my veins. "Unless you find your mate before the next full moon, your position will be given away."
"To whom?" I shot back. " No one else can…"
"Trevor." His voice was so low I almost missed it. "Trevor gets it."
"You're joking. That's not possible!" He wasn't making any sense. " Trevor isn't supposed to be the successor.."
"But he's of royal blood." He cut me off again. "He's my son. He's as much royalty as you are and everyone knows he's make a great Alpha."
"You're sick." My fists slammed onto the top of his desk." You're f*****g sick!"
"And you're wild, hot-headed, arrogant, selfish, just to name a few." I watched as he ticked them off his finger one by one. " If we're being honest, Trevor is the best fit and I'm glad your father sees it now, even though it took him so long."
"It's never going to work!" I seethed. " This Kingdom belongs to me and me only!"
"You'll just have to prove it then." He smirked. " Find your mate before the full moon or risk your title going to someone else. I, for the record, am looking forward to it. You do know the full moon is just a week away right?"
This wasn't happening. I won't let it. Without sparing him so much as a glance, I walked out of the tiny office.
I was going to be named Alpha, and nothing, and no one can stop that.
