Chapter Twelve The RebellionThat night there was a great celebration for the slaves who had joined the rebellion. Lanterns were hung in spaces between the torches on the earth walls. The cooks had prepared a feast; though only basic meat and vegetables, it was a welcomed spread for the slaves who were not used to such a selection of food. Most of the food had been stolen by the rebellion from convoys travelling from ships to the fireruler’s city. The tunnels were filled with music and laughter. Slaves and soldiers strummed on stringed instruments and thumped on leather drums. Others sat down together and talked as they ate.
