CHAPTER 9 : Facing him

959 Words
And finally school started. Even though Sean was back a while ago, I didn’t get to see him much. He seemed distant. And for some reason, I have been having a bad feeling about it. Maybe today I’ll get to see him. I thought distancing myself from him will help me move on and get over my feelings. Maybe it did. But I still was his friend and I need to face him as his friend. Just as I walk towards my first period, my heart stops seeing him right in front of me. What happened to him? The aura around him is dark and gloomy. He stops as he comes face to face with me. There are bags under his eyes. And that pair of hazel eyes that made me fall for him for the first time, seemed to be lost in darkness. The sparkle which was always there, seems to be missing. “Hey...you.” he says trying to force a smile on his face. It hurts to see him like this. I wonder what might have happened. “Hey. How are you A.N.D.E.R.S.O.N?” he gives a weak laugh in response. “You caught me, right? How do you even do that? Emma doesn’t get that either.” “Oh well, let me tell you a secret. I’m a mind reader.” I whisper making him laugh a bit harder and this time he is not even forcing it. That is the sound I missed, the sound I craved for. **************** “What?? Your mom’s decided to get married with another man?” I gasp. “Yeah...You know how they got divorced when my mom found out that my dad was cheating on her? Well, she’s hell bent on proving to my dad that she can move on quickly as he’s planning to get married soon too. Aahh!!! I’m hating it. How can two adults be so immature and careless???” I notice his shoulder tensing and he balls his fists. I can’t imagine how hurt and betrayed he must be feeling. I don’t know what came over me, I suddenly wrap my arms around him and start patting him back. “It’s all going to be alright Sean. I know it’s hard right now. But trust me, everything is going to be alright. And even if it doesn’t, we are here for you. I AM HERE.” I feel Sean’s shoulders relaxing. Sighing he wraps his arms around me pulling me closer to him. “Thank you Maria. You always know what to say and how to make me feel better. I’m glad that I have you.” I can feel his warm breathes on my shoulder. Oh no! Not now. I need to stay calm. I can’t let him hear how fast my heart is beating right now. It’ll be so embarrassing!! I put my hands on his chest, creating enough gap between so that I can look into his face. I give him a smile and he smiles back. “You know, I’ll be here for you Sean. No matter what. Through thick and thin, you’ll always have me by your side.” A grin spreads over his face. “Don’t regret your promise later cause I’m annoying as hell!” he laughs and I can’t but laugh with him. How can I not love this boy?  "I know now that you know he is hurting, it's going to be hard for you to stay away from him, isn't that right Maria? I mean it's like the perfect opportunity for you to get even closer to him. And he knows that you will be there for him no matter what. This is actually best opportunity!!" Natalie screams in excitement.   "Oh no! I just want to be there for him just as his friend. Nothing more. He still has Emma, remember?"   "Then where is she? Is she here? Because I can't seem to see her on him. Well as I told you before she is just after him because of his family's fortune. Nothing else!!" She crosses her arms competing what she had to say.   "I want this to be wrong you know. If this this turns out to be true, Sean is going to be so hurt. He feels so betrayed by his father and now his mother decides to marry again. If Emma is seriously with him because of his fortune, I don't know what he's going to do. He's going to be devastated and I don't want that." I take a deep breath.   "Not because I love him, but because I'm his friend and he considers me as his good friend."   "I know Angel that you mean well. But my gut tells me, Emma is not a good person. She's just using Sean. And I think the sooner he gets this, the less hurt he will be."   "We can't just keep assuming that she's using him. Maybe she's really cares about him."   "No. She doesn't." Edwin comes in making us turn towards him.   "What do you mean?"   "I mean that what we are assuming is just not an assumption. She actually is after his money, his family's money. She's even cheating on him."   "What????? SHE IS WHAT?????" I stand up and question Edwin while I raise my voice without even realizing.  How can she? I'm sure Edwin is wrong. This has to be wrong. Sean is a good guy. A lot of bad things that happened to him but Emma is one of the good things that has happened to him because he loves her.   Edwin must be wrong. Edwin had to be wrong.  I so want to him to wrong.  But, he is not. He is not wrong this time.
