Chapter 3After a sixty-second tour of the four rooms and hallway, Angela sat Elizabeth down on the couch with a glass of wine and called Dawn from the kitchen phone to inquire what time she would be coming home and informed her they would be having company. “Is it that girl?” “Yes.” “So she’s coming over?” “Um…” “Is she there now?” “Yes.” “Excellent. I just scored a bag of mushrooms from one of the kids on the wait staff.” “Perfect timing.” “Yeah. Okay, cool. I should be home around seven.” It was 5:30 just then. Once she hung up the phone, Angela looked at Elizabeth rather sheepishly, noting that the vision of Elizabeth just sitting there on the couch drinking a glass of merlot seemed natural, exactly right.
