CHAPTER 7: RETURN OF THE REJECTED LUNA

323 Words
Three years after the night the pack cast her aside, Selene Ravencrest returned to the Silver Crescent Pack. No one recognized the woman stepping from the black SUV. She wore a fitted dark gown, her silver-black hair cascading over her shoulders, and power rolled off her in waves strong enough to silence the entire courtyard. Then a small boy climbed out beside her. Elias Draven gripped her hand, his golden eyes scanning the crowd with calm curiosity. The same golden eyes as Kael Draven. Whispers erupted. “It can’t be.” “Selene is alive.” “Who is the child?” At the top of the pack house steps, Kael froze. For a moment, the powerful Alpha looked like a man who had seen a ghost. “Selene,” he breathed. She met his gaze without a flicker of emotion. “Alpha Draven.” The formal title hit him like a slap. Kael descended the steps, his eyes moving from her face to the child at her side. His expression changed from shock to dawning realization. Elias looked up at him. “Mommy, who is that?” Selene’s voice was cool and precise. “A man who made a terrible mistake.” A low growl rumbled from Kael’s chest. Before he could speak, another vehicle door opened. Lucien Varkos stepped out. The feared Lycan King moved to Selene’s side and placed a possessive hand at the small of her back. Gasps swept through the courtyard. Kael’s eyes darkened. “What is he doing with you?” Lucien’s lips curved into a dangerous smile. “Standing beside my queen.” The words landed like thunder. Kael’s gaze snapped back to Selene. “Queen?” Selene lifted her chin. “I didn’t return for your forgiveness, Kael.” Moonlight caught in her eyes as she delivered the truth he had spent years dreading. “I came back to take what was always mine.”
