30 David The room had a small sink and bench in one corner and a stretcher bed along the opposite wall. Sarah helped me onto the bed and adjusted its recline so I could sit up. She took off my shoes and removed my tie. The bed’s white sheet was stiff and felt like fine sandpaper to touch. The pillow was stuffed like a rag doll; my head was limp and uncomfortable against it. I rocked my head from side to side to relieve the pressure of the vice that was squeezing deep into my temples. The rocking made no difference. “Here is the remainder of your Zepraxonyl, as requested.” Sarah handed me the half tablet and a glass of water. After taking my Zep, I closed my eyes and fell into a rhythm of measured slow breaths. The vice on my head released its grip. The tension in my neck and shoulders
