Two days after our meeting I got a call from Matteo. He had thought about it, and called David and arranged to meet him. And then asked me if I would like to come as some sort of after-thought. I know it’s not all about me … but really?
As a briefing, I gave him some vague background about David and his apartment. I warned him about the lack of doors. Now I wish I hadn’t. With a serious discussion underway, I was worrying about toilets with missing doors. I blocked the thought from my mind and tuned back into the others. David was speaking as the three of us sat at his dining table.
“They tried to unsettle me by asking me the same question in different ways, but I knew more about natural gas than their expert witnesses did,” David recounted.
“It’s a common tactic,” Matteo said.
