10 Lily Outside, I stopped to rummage through my bag. “Just looking for my sunglasses.” The glare off the white pavement drove needles into my eyes. “It’s bright, isn’t it?” Matteo squinted, his contact lenses not correcting fast enough. I put my glasses on. “That’s better.” “He’s a feisty old guy, isn’t he?” Matteo said as we headed toward our cars. “Actually, he was less intense than last time. He was calm and spoke more naturally. He moved around. He was just more normal.” “But what about that cake trance thing?” He laughed. “Yeah, that was strange.
