Chapter 11

Reggie and Monica walked towards Baldwin's pack lands. It would take longer than a day since they had no cars and Monica was only human. Reggie tried to keep a steady pace for her but she grew tired after a few hours. He wished he could carry them both but in wolf form it would be too risky. He would have liked some supplies for them too. They weren't allowed to bring any food or water. The clothes they wore were the ones that they were dressed in that morning. The weather and walk kept them warm enough but the night would be cold. Reggie was fine with the cold, since he was a werewolf but Monica and Lucian couldn't shift into a wolf. He only hoped to find shelter and gather some wood for a fire. They took another break and Reggie watched as Monica tried to calm Lucian.

"He won't sleep and I can't feed him. I'm too tired and cold" Monica complained.

"Let me carry him for a while. He should sleep with my body warmth" Reggie suggested.

Monica gave Lucian to Reggie and he carried his son for a few hours. Monica still struggled to keep up with his pace. The day had nearly come to an end. Reggie looked around and saw the valley had little shelter. He decided he would need to change into his wolf to find shelter. He gave Lucian to Monica and let her rest while he was gone. Reggie shifted and went through the valley at a fast pace. He came back when he saw a tree with a hollow inside. He raced back to Monica and his son.

"I think I found us some shelter; we should hurry before it gets too dark" Reggie told her.

Monica knew she couldn't run with Lucian so she gave him to Reggie. He took Lucian and raced ahead, stopping when he could hear Monica struggle to keep up. After a short run and break, Monica caught up to him then they ran to the shelter. Reggie gave Monica Lucian while he fetched some wood. They started a fire and he huddled next to Monica and Lucian. Monica was too tired to cry but Lucian wasn't. She tried feeding him but couldn't.

"I can't feed him; I don't think we can go anywhere without food" Monica complained.

"I'll hunt for food, first thing in the morning. Try to sleep, I'll look after Lucian" Reggie suggested.

Reggie held a restless Lucian and Monica huddled next to them. She was cold and hungry. She was able to fall asleep after the heat from the fire and Reggie warmed her. In the morning she was awoken by Reggie, who looked like he hadn't slept at all. He gave Lucian to her and went out to hunt as his wolf. It was after a few hours that he had brought back a rabbit that he had to skin with his claws. Reggie shifted back and grabbed the little clothing he had. He then skewed the rabbit and placed it into the fire to cook. He then tore off some cooked meat and gave it to Monica.

"Aren't you having any?" Monica asked him. He shook his head

"Rufus and I ate already" Reggie admitted to her. Monica looked disgusted; she knew he had to eat his kill raw.

Lucian started to suck on Monica's fingers after she ate her meal.

"It looks like he can eat meat too" Monica said surprised.

"Only if you pre chew it, he could be able to eat a little. Since he is a werewolf like me" Reggie said proudly.

Monica chewed a little bit of meat and spat it out then gave it to Lucian, who then sucked and swallowed it. She continued to feed him until he burped and passed out.

"At least he's happy now. We should be able to sleep" Monica told Reggie.

"I will sleep first, since I haven't had any since yesterday morning. One of us needs to be awake just in case there are more rogues around here. Wake me up, if you think there's something moving nearby. It doesn't matter what it is, we can't be too careful" Reggie instructed her.

"Yes, I will" Monica told him. She watched over Reggie and Lucian.

Reggie was able to sleep a few hours before he woke up to Lucian crying.

"He seems thirsty, I don't have anything to give him" Monica admitted.

"Alright, we will go and look for water. We will need to find a new place to rest and eat" Reggie told her.

He kicked dirt into the fire and stomped on it. He made sure the fire was out before they left. Monica and Reggie left and he followed his nose to a stream on the other side of the valley. They took turns drinking from it. Reggie cupped the water and gave it to Lucian to drink. He drank it quickly and then wanted to bath in the stream.

"He might be able to handle the cold water. He is starting to smell and I don't have any clean nappies or clothes for him" Monica suggested.

"Let him go without clothes during the day, wash his clothes and tonight it can dry by the fire" Reggie suggested to her.

Monica did what he said and Lucian was happy to be free of his dirty and smelly clothes. They started moving back towards the mountains and Reggie kept a lookout for some more shelter. They found a pile of boulders and Reggie was able to rearrange them into a camp. He left Monica and Lucian and went looking for more wood. He came back and started a fire; Monica hung the clothes she washed on a rock. They spent the night like they had the night before. The next few days it was like this for them. They rested at night, Reggie hunted and gathered wood, Monica watched over him and Lucian during the day. They slowly made thier way into the mountains and the weather got really cold, it felt like it was winter and there was snow. Reggie and Lucian were sleeping on thier 4th morning and Monica saw some wolves approach them.

"Reggie, wake up, I think there are rogues" she cried.

Reggie woke and sniffed the air.

"No, it's my brother's pack. They have found us" Reggie said with relief.
