The hunter's daughter

Chapter 5

The car came to a screeching halt inside the pack's borders. There was something going on near Monica's house. People were running and shouting. Alpha Ashley looked upset as he approached thier car

"There's been a rogue attack, they went after your mate and pup" he told Reggie.

Reggie ran towards his house to find the door broken down and Monica nowhere in sight.

"Monica" he shouted as he ran through the house.

The furniture had been knocked over and glass had been smashed. His son's clothes and toys were thrown everywhere. Reggie looked in every room but couldn't find them. Alpha Barron mind linked his guards and was told that they had held the rogues back as Monica ran with the pup. Reggie was starting to fear that they were taken by rogues. He continued to search for them and fought to control his wolf that wanted to take over.

"Let me take over. I will find mate" Rufus told Reggie.

"No, we should be able to find them without you taking over" Reggie told him.

"We need to find them soon. Or I will take over" Rufus warned him.

"We will, they couldn't be taken by rogues. Why would they take them both? They have to be still here" Reggie insisted.

"We can still smell them. The smell doesn't go far" Rufus told Reggie.

Reggie picked up on Monica's scent and followed it. There was a big toy box that was in the lounge room. All the toys had been thrown out of it but it still looked locked. Why would it be locked if there was nothing in it? Reggie went over to it and opened it. Monica and Lucian were inside. She looked relieved and Lucian started crying.

"Monica, I was so worried. Are you alright, my mate?" Reggie asked softly.

"Reggie, I heard the rogues trying to break into the house. The guards told me to stay hidden while they fought them off. I quickly threw out Lucian's toys and hid us in here. The box shut and locked itself, I couldn't get out" Monica told him.

"It's alright, they are gone now. I am here now; I will keep you both safe" Reggie promised her.

Reggie held Monica and Lucian while they both cried. They soon stopped and looked around at the house. It was going to need a clean.

"How did your visit with your brother go?" Monica asked Reggie.

"It was nice, he's Alpha now. We might have a new pack to join" Reggie told her.

After the rogue attack Reggie was sure that someone had targeted him. The house wasn't near the border and it wasn't too far from the pack house. There were many houses to target. There was nothing special about thier house. Even if they could smell that Monica was human, the guards should have discouraged anyone attacking them. They weren't sure if Alpha Ashley or his sister had anything to do with it but they knew they weren't going to be safe in the pack. They both started cleaning up the house and the guards came back and checked out the house. Alpha Barron soon joined them.

"I'm glad that you're safe, Monica. I have been with Alpha Ashley, who insists that the attack was random and he was trying to get here to help. He must not be a good fighter if he can't fight off a group of rogues. Or he just didn't want to help a pack member" Alpha Barron informed them.

"I believe both. He never wants to train or have pack members prepare for attacks. He believes he's rich enough to bribe any enemy to leave the pack alone. Anyone he can't bribe he decides to fight them. He couldn't bribe Monica's father and so he had him killed. He would have left him alive if he had paid him. Alpha Ashley didn't care to save anyone the hunters captured, unless he got money for it" Reggie told them.

"That makes sense, since he only wanted to rescue me because he thought he would be rewarded. Now he is trying to get more power. He wants to make an alliance that will make him more important. He doesn't have anything that will make him more important. I suspect he had something to do with the rogue attack. It just seems suspicious they on the day we leave, rogues attack this house when it's not the best target. I will need to find out how to prove it" Alpha Barron informed them.

"I suspect him or his sister. They both want us to leave. But why not say it and not have to pay off rogues to do their dirty work" Reggie admitted to them.

"He still wants my protection but from whom and why, I still haven't figured that out yet" Alpha Barron admitted.

"So, what do we do? We can't leave here and it's not safe in the pack" Reggie asked Alpha Barron.

"I will have to stay here until you all can leave. Alpha Ashley wouldn't dare to do anything while I am here. Until then we will have to wait and try to bear the presence of the so-called Alpha Ashley" Alpha Barron told them.

Monica and Reggie agreed with him. What else could they do? They had nowhere to go and it seemed they were never going to be welcome in the pack. Reggie and Monica continued to clean thier house. A she wolf watched them through a window. She was annoyed that the rogues hadn't taken Monica and the mutt like she wanted. Alyssa was the one that had paid them off. Her brother wasn't aware of her involvement. She didn't want him to turn against her. He would do it just so he could appear trust worthy and get a better deal. He was better at bribing packs and even hunters. She knew that he had paid many rogues and hunters to tell others that they had a deal with the bold moon pack. He wanted Baldwin's pack to be investigated and not his. They both wanted Reggie and his brother to be outcasted. They had managed one brother and now were close to getting rid of Reggie and his mate. Alyssa was sure that they would get the hint that they weren't wanted in the pack and leave. The rogue attack was just another attempt to get rid of them but it wouldn't be the last. Alyssa then left and went to see what her brother was doing about the rogues. If one was captured alive, she would be discovered as a traitor. She had to make sure that wasn't going to happen.
