AlphaGalen

1133 Words
Back at his castle, Galen’s mind scrubbed through the events of that day. Was he confused? He asked himself. He'd been having dreams about a certain lady, someone whom he saw to be his mate. “I felt her…I felt that I would meet her today, but I came across someone else. A strange person if you ask me.” He was having this conversation with himself, as his mind combated him. He couldn't believe that she was the one he was looking for, for so many obvious reasons. Indeed, it was odd that he knew her name; he could sense things about her; he'd even tried to help her. But she was…she was ugly… pitiful…and..and so graceful. There was something about her that he seemed to ignore. As he continued struggling through his mind, he didn't know when his beta had entered the room. “Galen?” Galen didn't hear her. “Hey, Galen!” His eyes shone a little as he turned to look at Jess. “I wonder what could be going through your mind that's got you so captivated. You didn't even know when I got in the room!” “Jess. Hi.” “Hello to you too, Alpha. Where were you during the early hours of today?” “Uh..I went running.” “Without your pack?” “I just needed some time alone.” “Alone from what? Us? Are we bothering you now?” “Jess. How many times do I have to tell you to get less emotional when you're talking to me?” “If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were acting rather like your brother.” “Don't you dare-” It immediately crossed his mind that Isolde had compared him to his brother, Harald, as well. He sighed. “You all need to give me a break. I just needed some time alone. My mind has been experiencing a sort of turbulence.” Jess winced. It may have been obvious that somewhere in her head lay deep affections for Galen, but there was nothing she could do about it except hope that one day he'd mark her. It was her greatest wish. This time, she was sour that he went running alone because this was something Galen did with everyone. Most times, with her. She wasn't angry that he didn't run with everyone that morning, she was angry that he didn't run with her. “Jess.” He called her name with that voice, the one that made her heart quake, the one that sent songbirds singing in her head. Immediately, her anger subsided and her genuine concern about him resumed. “What's the matter, Galen? What's roughening up your mind?” “I… I think I know who my mate is.” If only Galen knew that he wasn't meant to have this conversation with her. If only he knew that he was tearing open an already existing scar that Jess bore in her heart because she bled for him. “Y-your mate?” Her throat ached, revealing it in her voice. Galen still didn't take note of this. His mind had gone far, far away in imagination, in thoughts about whom he believed to be his mate. “Yes, I met her. Today, I think I met her,” He continued. Oh, Galen, poor Jess. “Think? When you have found your mate, it's not something you guess. You have to be sure. Maybe you're imagining it.” Jess was trying to be the voice of reasoning, but in truth, she was hoping that he was confused. Confused. It was uncommon for Galen to be confused. He was a tough, powerful Alpha. He had intense and amazing abilities; hence her confusion when he didn't detect that she had entered the room. “I know what I'm saying, Jess.” “How about you're a little upset about the prophecies we've been receiving concerning your brewing conflict with your brother, so it's got you warped a bit.” With a certain speed, his eyes moved to her reading with suppressed malice. “I will not tolerate your disrespect, beta. How dare you assume that I am frightened of my brother? I am telling you here and now, that I've found my mate. I didn't even realize it when I saw her. She didn't seem the type. But I began to question myself; I could sense her, I knew her name, I knew she was in pain and I offered my help.” “These are abilities you already have as the great alpha that you are, Galen!” Jess' voice and discomfort began to rise so she lost control of her hold on herself. “Even if she were your mate, that's not the most important thing right now! You'll go to war with Harald soon. It should be your priority to defeat him.” Finally, her voice relaxed but the damage had already been done as she felt Galen's impact on her shoulders, driving her to the wall. His silver eyes glistened, and he growled. This was Alpha Galen, but it was unusual of him to easily get angered by those he recognized as his own. Indeed, this new finding was troubling his heart, his soul, and his wolf. “You've spoken enough.” His hoarse voice sent waves of terror through her ears as her legs began shaking. What the hell? “I-I’m sorry I spoke out of turn.” She wasn't sorry, she was surprised. She was terrified. Galen didn't act like this, especially to her. He realized himself and released her shoulders. She dropped to the ground and screeched a little. They both didn't know that Galen, in anger, had lifted her off the ground. “Go. When I need you, I'll howl for you to come.” Shock flooded Jess as she looked at him still with terror. With her chest heaving high and low, she gathered herself and stood up. “Sure.” She started toward the door without attempting to look at his face. Galen felt a little antsy. His move could cost him Jess' loyalty because he literally attacked her but she had spoken carelessly. He wasn't scared of Harald nor what could become of the battle to come. Rather, he was terrified of what it would be like to have a mate. Again. After Harald had killed Loria, his first mate, he felt he would never find another one. Another person to brighten his dark world. Indeed, he was a great leader and he managed to smile around his pack and clan members, but deep down, he was a sad wolf longing for the love of someone. So had he found it? Rather, had she found him?
