Nathan POV
As soon as we got to our borders, I shifted and started running. I intended to run through our entire perimeter, and it would take my wolf about five hours. I gave him control because it was the first time he wanted it since we saw her that day.
For the first time, I felt everything he felt—the sniffing, the rush of running as fast as we could. We chased after a few rabbits, but he was so happy he was just having fun, not hunting.
- 'You're finally talking to me, huh?' I said to my wolf.
-'We found our mate,' he said with so much adoration, the same adoration I felt.
-'Yes, but... I think she's the one her parents were talking about.' At that, my wolf started to growl.
-'She is mine! Only mine!'
-'What if she is married? What about her kids?' At that, my wolf whimpered in despair.
We went to our favorite cliff to watch the moon when I sensed my beta coming from some nearby trees.
-'Alpha,' he said through the mind link, bowing his head.
-'Any reports?' I asked him.
-'The rogue we interrogated said they were hunting the she-wolf rogue that got away. They didn't notice they were on our territory until it was too late. We found the she-wolf on Friday. She said she was captured by them when she was five and was forced to be their slave until one of them tried to r**e her, so she ran. Now she is in one of our cells waiting for you to decide her fate. The man, too,' he answered.
-'Tomorrow,' is all I could say. Right now, all I could think about was our mate.
-'Is everything okay?' he asked.
-'I found her, Leo,' is all I said, putting my head between my paws.
His ears perked a bit, letting me know I had his full attention.
-'Really? You found her? Here, in Seattle?Wait... so what's the problem?' he asked suspiciously after I didn't say anything else. He didn't believe me. Heck, I couldn't believe it either.
-'I think she's married or at least was and has three kids,' I said, and my wolf whimpered.
He took his time to think about what I'd just told him.
-'Well, I think if the Moon Goddess brought you two together at this precise moment, it's for a purpose. Maybe there is more to the story than you know. She wouldn't let you meet her again if it weren't for you to be together. Or maybe it's for your own closure so you can move on, reject her, and find your second chance,' he stated.
At that, my wolf growled and sat, looking at the moon.
-'I won't reject her, even if she is... My wolf won't allow me to move on now that he's smelled her and seen her face. Now that she's real and she's here,' I said. Shadow howled at the moon in a defeated prayer, and my beta followed.
-'Is it really her?' he asked again. I just looked at him deadly in the eye as my answer.
-'Then we need to get the whole intel to make a heck of a plan for you to win her heart, because, man... you are rusty. I've seen your game, and it's pretty lame, bro. You need to practice your lines...' he said with his wolfy smile.
I charged at him playfully, and we started running back to our pack house. I put on some shorts after shifting; my parents were waiting for us in the living room. My mom hugged me tight, and after a pat on my shoulder from my dad, we sat and talked about our project overseas. Then, after a while, I started to get nervous. I told my parents how I met my mate again.
-"Oh, my baby, I'm so happy! When can we meet her? Is she a vampire like you thought? Is she beautiful? I bet she is..." my mom started rambling while my dad was watching her with puppy-love eyes. I sighed.
-"Well, there is an unexpected turn of events... I think she might be a single mom." They both gasped.
-"While I was flying, I heard her parents, who were sitting next to me, argue about her being separated and alone with three kids, so I know there's more... I don't know..." I said, rubbing my face exasperated.
-"Three kids!" Mom said.
-"So what are you going to do?" My dad asked at the same time.
-"If she is married with kids, are you going to reject her?"
-"NO!" My wolf and I shouted at the same time. I got up and walked to the fireplace.
-"Well, are you willing to break up a family? Are you going to force her to be with you? What about the kids? Are you going to leave them with their dad? Are you willing to be their father? What if she doesn't want to have her kids surrounded by wolves?" she continued, even though I zoned out after her second question.
What am I going to do if she doesn't want to be with me? All my fears were taunting me, making me feel so small I couldn't recognize myself. Am I a real alpha? I’ve been so lost without her; I know even if I have to kidnap and chain her to me, I would.
But if she's separated, there's a chance they'll get back together. Could I let her be? If she has kids, they would need their father.
Would I be able to separate them? Would my wolf accept them as his own? I won't be able to live without her anymore. Not now that I've found her. But I won't be able to break her family if she is happy.
Shadow was whimpering in the back of my head. Damn, I needed to see her again. I needed to be at least near her. Breathe her scent and look into those dark brown eyes.
Make sure she is real.
I need a plan, so I'm going to take this really slow. I called my men, and they gave me her address. She lives on the city's border, so she has a forest in her backyard. I ran in wolf form and went directly to Tom and Ramirez. There was shouting in the house.
-'The women are arguing with the old men about who is in charge of something, Alpha, but they use weird names. I think they speak in code,' Tom said through the mind link.
Suddenly, we heard her back door slam open, and there, my mate appeared with a beer in her hand and a scowl on her face. She looked so adorable when she furrowed her brows and pouted.
We watched her, very still, as she came our way. A few meters into the woods, she climbed a huge rock and lay there. She sighed, opened her beer, and took a few sips. I wished I could lay there with her, to comfort her, just hold her, anything. I didn't move; I just observed her.
She has her hair dyed with two colors: pastel rose and mint green. Her heart-shaped face is amazing. She has big eyes and plump lips. She doesn't wear makeup, but she really doesn't need it. I didn't notice I was moving until I saw her eyes avert to where I was.
She sighed again, and after toasting the moon, she finished it with one big gulp. She went back home, and I saw her enter her room. She got into her bed in no time. I told Ramirez to get all the information he could about her, and Tom had to follow her at every moment.
I asked for a report after 14 freaking days. I was going nuts; my wolf was driving me crazy. I don't know what I'd do if I had to wait any longer. I had spent almost every night visiting her until her lights were out. I was at my office in town, reviewing some budgets, when my beta knocked.
-"Come in," I said absentmindedly.
-"Alpha," Leo saluted as he entered and sat in front of me, handing me a thin folder. I raised a brow, and he squirmed in his seat.
When I opened the folder, I saw her face in a few surveillance cameras. Her name is Andrea Urquía Ben Sharon, born in Venezuela. I had the basic info. She's 28, has three kids, two dogs, chickens, and rabbits. She has two jobs, a nurse and a waitress. She lives southeast of our borders. She has two warehouses where she goes almost daily. Her parents I met at the airport and a sister named Cristina. They look exactly opposite. They seem close; in almost every photo, she's with her.
As I read more, my heart stopped when I saw the word "married," and I looked up at my beta. As if he read my mind, he said,
-"They haven't seen him. From the info you gave us and what we found, I think she might be running away from him. We couldn't find any records of her anywhere else or where she has been before coming here six months ago. We only know that she came from Germany a year and a half ago." He continued to talk, but I stopped listening.
Three kids. The first one, almost nine, has her smile; he looks strong and determined.
The cute six-year-old girl is like a mini version of her; she has cute unicorn-colored hair, too.
And the baby boy is so adorable it makes my heart warm.
I'm in love with them already, and I haven't even met them. They look happy and they smile all the time, even the baby. My wolf is also excited about them; he is wagging his tail.
Her smile, though, is different. It doesn't reach her eyes. They still seem sad, empty.
I looked at my clock and asked,
-"When is she getting to her second job?"
-"She gets there at 9:00 PM. She's one of the waitresses at Paul's club," he replied.
-"Well... I think it's time we meet my future Luna," I said with a smile.
