Chapter 3: Her again

1325 Words
Nathan POV I was on our 31-hour flight, listening to music because the couple sitting next to me were arguing about their daughter. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but with my wolf's hearing, I couldn't avoid listening to the whole thing. (I will not repeat it again. Do not even think about bringing up that stupid idea of her going back to him. You know that if she has already made that decision, she won't back out. We raised her well, and you know she lived by and for that boy, so if they separated, it had to be for a good reason) -"Si si ya sé, pero esos niños necesitan tener una figura paterna..No sabemos como lo ha pasado todo este tiempo sola.. Ya casi no hablamos y tengo miedo de que esta situación le supere.. Son 3 niños pequeños que necesitan de sus padres.. El es el amor de su vida.. y a lo mejor solo necesitan un tiempo para darse cuenta de lo que se pierden" he retorted. (Yeah, yeah, I know, but those children need to have a father figure. We don't know what she's been through all this time alone. We hardly speak anymore, and I'm afraid this situation is too much for her. There are three small children who need their parents. He is the love of her life, and maybe they just need time to realize what they're missing) I tried to tune them out and focus on my music while finishing our reports from the last project, but it was really hard to concentrate. I'm used to it by now. I noticed they stopped arguing, so I lowered the volume. I closed my laptop and tried to sleep, but as the stewardess was offering us beverages, the man started talking to me. We began to talk about my work and his missions. We exchanged numbers and emails. He was really easy to talk to. He spoke like a wise man and was a really good listener. He believed in love, grace, and justice, and I bet he has lots of stories to tell his grandchildren. They're going to love him. When we landed, I went to the checkpoint, then the luggage pickup area, while my warriors took care of everything else. My wolf was unusually restless. I had a feeling something was off, but my wolf wouldn't talk to me. We gathered before exiting. Shadow was pacing back and forth, and a headache was starting to form, but he still didn't tell me what was wrong. So I ordered my warriors to have all eyes open to avoid any trouble we might encounter. I felt eyes on me but didn't see where from. I mind-linked my warriors to spread out, mingle, and look out for any type of danger as we exited through the door. And then it hit me. I caught the scent of pineapples and coconut through my nostrils and inhaled deeply to fill my lungs with that divine smell, bringing me back to life. My eyes began to scan the people waiting outside for all the passengers. I desperately darted from one side to the other. And then I saw her. The most beautiful hazelnut eyes I’ve ever seen. Her eyes locked with mine, and I just froze. I couldn’t hear anything around me or even move. I didn't even blink because I didn't want her to disappear on me again. My wolf was shouting "MATE" desperately in my ear again and again, and I fought with all my power not to shift right there and claim her. -'Don't worry, Shadow. I won't let her go away from us ever again.' I kept chanting that she is ours and she is here. The woman who sat in my row shouted -"Andrea," and she blinked a few times but didn't break our gaze, not even to look at her as she approached. I could see the resemblance, so she was probably the mother. -"¿Por qué no trajiste a los niños?" (Why didn't you bring the kids?) the woman asked her. No answer. -"Andrea, contesta, mija" (Andrea, answer, my child), she tried again. -"Sorry, mami, can you repeat? Estaba distraída con mi futuro marido" (I was distracted by my future husband), she said with the most melodic, angelic voice. We were still holding our gaze. Wait... what did she say? Her mother followed her gaze and looked at me. -"Andrea, oh my God!" she said while bursting into a loud laugh and hugging her again. She broke eye contact closing them and hugged her back. And then she looked up at me again, like she couldn’t get her eyes off me either. I was still smiling like I had won the lottery when her words registered in my brain. When our eyes locked together again, my smile got wider. -'Yeah, I understood you, babe.' She blushed and looked so adorable I almost ran to hold her in my arms. -'DO IT!' my wolf said. -'NOW!!' She turned to hug her dad, and I took the opportunity to mind-link my team again to track and get all the information on my soon-to-be new family. They were hugging, and her dad looked at me and nodded. I nodded back, and when my mate saw our interaction, she turned an even darker shade of red. My heart was pounding so fast I needed a moment to really breathe and think. I had to really think about what I was going to do and how. I needed a plan to make her mine once and forever, because I won’t stop until she is in my arms! My gamma, Tom, and my delta, Ramirez, the best tracker in my pack, will start following them from the shadows, and they'll get me all I need to know. Now I was standing on the side, trying to hear whatever I could, like a nosy neighbor, and trying my best to seem like I was waiting for someone to pick me up. Lame, I know, but f**k it. -'MINE,' my wolf agreed. As the minutes passed, my mind started to work properly again, and I suddenly remembered the bickering her parents had during the flight, and I froze. Wait... was she the one her parents were talking about? Was she married? Were they happy? -'NO!' my wolf snarled. What happened? Did she still love him? At that, my wolf started to growl in my head, and my face morphed into a deep scowl. Even if she did, she’s not escaping me again. I'll kill that fucker. She is mine, and I’ll make sure to be the only one who will make her happy. I mind-linked my other two warriors to get the car as soon as possible because I needed to shift. I needed to run and think, or I'd do something reckless. I watched as they left. She then turned her face slightly to the left, as if hesitating, like she wanted to say something, or maybe I was just imagining things now. I could see her beautiful profile again, like a déjà vu. She hasn't changed a bit. She still makes my heart beat so fast I can hear it. She still makes me feel like a 16-year-old boy who's asking his crush to prom. But something's off. I can't feel that fierceness. I didn't see fire in her eyes, just... sadness, emptiness. I can recognize those feelings because that's exactly how I've felt without her. -'Don't worry, my love, we'll meet again.' I promise. My wolf howled in approval.
