Chapter 6

Freya A sharp, tearing pain ripped through my abdomen the moment I tried to move—even the slightest motion was enough to make agony explode through my body. It felt as though all the air had been violently torn from my lungs, leaving me gasping in unbearable pain. My fingers instinctively clenched into tight fists, desperately trying to endure the agony. For nearly a full minute, I struggled against the pain until a cold sweat drenched my entire body. Only then was I finally able to force my eyes open. A familiar white ceiling came into view. The steady drip of an IV echoed softly through the room, while the sharp scent of antiseptic filled my nose. A faint, exhausted smile tugged at my lips. "...I'm not dead," I whispered. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't that I wasn't grateful to have survived. I had been hit by a car with terrifying force, and even my own husband hadn't hesitated to leave me lying there. ...So who saved me? The door opened. I was so weak that even turning my head felt painfully slow. The person who had just entered looked down at me from above. "You're awake?" My brows immediately knitted together. Had I hit my head that hard? Because the face staring back at me... was my own. "You've been unconscious for two days." From her eyes, I could see a deep, overwhelming sadness. "You finally woke up, Freya." Tears streamed down her face, and she quickly wiped them away. "I never thought we'd meet like this... It's a miracle." Instead of calming down, her sobs only grew stronger. The situation left me completely bewildered. I still couldn't process everything that was happening. When I tried to move, she immediately helped me sit up, gently propping me against a pillow she had just placed behind my back. "Freya, I'm Victoria... your twin sister." Her words struck me like a bolt of lightning. My mouth fell open, yet not a single sound came out. Even though she had the exact same face as mine, I couldn't bring myself to believe what she had just said. I lowered my gaze, my mind racing. "No... I already have a family..." I looked back at her. Victoria met my eyes with profound sorrow. She clasped my hand tightly in both of hers, as if afraid I would disappear the moment she let go. She took a shaky breath, trying to compose herself despite the tears that continued to fall. "Yes... it seems they found you. You were kidnapped years ago." She sounded utterly certain, but I was still struggling to make sense of it all. I had only just regained consciousness, and now I was being confronted with a shocking truth about my own identity. "Lance!" she suddenly called, her voice rising sharply. I watched as a neatly dressed servant entered the room, carrying something carefully against his chest. A document. Judging by the way he handled it, it was clearly something important. "Here it is, Miss." He handed the document to the woman who shared my face. I silently observed everything unfolding before me, still unable to understand what kind of game this was. When she looked at me again, she offered a faint smile. "This isn't just my word, Freya. As soon as my servant found you, I came here immediately and had a DNA test conducted. These are the results." She held the document out to me. My hand lifted instinctively, only to stop halfway. My heart was filled with hesitation. Should I really take it...? I swallowed hard before finally reaching for the document. Holding it in trembling hands, I opened it and read the report. Victoria had been telling the truth. My heartbeat quickened as countless thoughts raced through my mind. Never—not even once—had I imagined I would find myself in a situation like this. Suddenly, my chest tightened as I thought of the two people who had loved and raised me all my life. They had never once told me... that I wasn't their biological daughter. All this time, I had believed they were my family. And now... My twin sister had appeared. "It can't be... So you're really my—" "...sister?" I called out weakly. She immediately pulled me into a tight embrace. "Yes. I'm here. We can finally be together." Victoria stayed by my side in the hospital. She was a complete stranger, yet somehow she felt strangely familiar. It was as if our minds were connected. She gently patted my hand, prompting me to look at her. "That heartless man never came here. He's too busy taking care of his mistress." Her words pierced my heart like an icy blade. Victoria knew about my relationship with Ethan. The room fell into a heavy silence for several seconds until Victoria let out a long, steady breath. "I'm going to arrange a fake death certificate. Then come home with me, Freya." I stared at her in shock. It was an astonishing offer, but.... it couldn't possibly be that simple. Victoria seemed to read my thoughts with ease. "Don't worry. Our family has the power to make it happen." She leaned close to my ear and deliberately whispered, "Your name is Freya Harland." Once again, her words left me speechless. Everything in my life was changing far too quickly. The Harland family? The prestigious Harland family that had been renowned for generations—the powerful family that dominated the security industry? I swallowed hard. "Sister..." "Take me with you."
