(Rasha) I dial Nafas’s number. “Hello?” “Nafas... where are you?” “My class is over. I got on the bus.” “Get off at the next stop... I’ll come pick you up.” “Did something happen?” “No... we’re supposed to go somewhere.” “Umm... okay.” I hang up. I steer the car toward the route back from Nafas’s university. I run a hand through my hair. A few stops ahead, I notice a crowd gathered at the bus stop. I frown and slow the car down. I roll down the window. I lower my head and stare at the crowd from over my sunglasses. When I see Nafas among the crowd, my frown deepens. I park the car to the side and quickly get out. I push my way through the crowd with difficulty so I can see more clearly. I see a boy gripping Nafas’s wrist and shouting, while Nafas’s face has gone pale. M
