Standing onstage in San Francisco, out of my normal L.A. environment, smelling frankincense and other exotic fumes, I would look out and see the crowd’s jaws drop and form stunned expressions like they were all saying, Oh at the same time. We, Faith No More, were playing “Mark Bowen”; one of the toughest songs I performed with them.
The song begins softly, slowly with a breakdown. Puffy’s mellow jazzy beat gave me a few bars to croon like one of my earliest influences, David Bowie, but as soon as the mood is established, it kicks in: But … you’ll … never make the grade!
