“He will come,” Robert said, looking in the same direction as Nathaniel. “Yes.” Nathaniel tried to pierce the morning mist, straining to see the familiar figure break through and come to stand beside him. “Yes, he will come.” The previous week had been a difficult one. He had worked hard with Thomas to prepare him to take his place as master cooper. He had worried about Jonathan’s decision and its effect on Rebecca. Would he tell her or just leave?
