For two weeks or more Nathaniel saw Jonathan only at Sabbath Service. Whenever he had spoken with him, it was in the presence of Rebecca, her sister and father, or members of Jonathan’s family. The men had had no chance to discuss their situation. On the third Sabbath following the wedding, Rebecca called to him as they were leaving the meetinghouse.
“Nathaniel.”
He stopped and turned back to her. “We’ve not seen you aside from service for so long. We miss you. Come to the breaking of the Sabbath with us tonight. It will be our first in our own home. Mary and Father will be there.”
