“How is this going to work out for you, Cale?”
He laughed, half triumphantly, half resigned. “I will release my crew and take Stella Blue out of orbit. Of course, it’s too far to reach Mars, but the moon might be on the cards.”
“Let’s do it,” Benway agreed, “We need to get going. All of this is for nothing if we don’t stop the Slow King’s plan.”
Clara pulled Stella Blue’s captain close once more, “Travel well, travel far, Cale. If any of the remaining mammals find a home in your space farm, all the better.”
“All these people on board, won’t they run out of food?” Benway asked.
“I’m certainly not going to show them my space farm. I suspect they will eat each other before long.”
Cale’s last words stayed with Clara all the way back to Earth.
