My breathing was ragged and heartfelt pained. Everything is awry. Not minding the thorns and the sharp bushes scratching my body, I made my way deeper under the trees. “Twenty. Twenty-one. Twenty-two. Twenty-three.” I heard his voice getting louder, letting me know what number he is now. I run, I run as much that I can, like a notorious criminal, never looking back and not stopping. I only got myself, the Mellaine, the one that had protected me over the years. Tears are falling rapidly on my face. I bit my lip to hold them back and my sobs.
