POV: Tristan
I didn’t move.
The phone was still pressed tightly against my ear, but my mind had gone completely still.
Numb, even.
What had Silas just said?
They were after me. They were targeting me.
For a second, I thought I heard wrong. That maybe I was just imagining things.
Then I spoke.
Slowly.
Carefully.
“Did you just say… me?”
There was no hesitation on the other end.
“Yes, boss.”
My hold on the phone tightened.
My jaw clenched.
“Are you certain?”
“Very certain, boss.”
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
Dangerous.
I could hear faint noises from the background on his end—voices, movement, maybe traffic—but none of that mattered to me right now.
All that mattered was what he had just said.
They weren’t after the containers.
They were after me.
“What else did this guy say?” I asked finally, my voice lower now.
Anyone could.feel the edge in my voice.
Silas paused.
“Nothing,” he replied. “He didn’t say anything else.”
I didn’t respond immediately.
My mind was already moving, calculating, trying to make sense of it all.
Who the hell would be bold enough to come after me?
And more importantly—
Why?
I exhaled slowly.
“Where are you right now?”
“I’m in Peru, boss.”
I stilled.
Peru.
That was far.
Why the hell was trouble coming to me from Peru.
Worst of all, I couldn’t just get up and leave everything here to chase shadows across countries.
Continents.
Not when Sophie was here.
Not when she was my responsibility.
“And Sami and Zaki are with you, right?” I asked.
“Yeah. The twins are with me.”
Good.
At least he wasn’t alone.
I ran a hand through my hair, pacing slightly now.
“Get on the next flight and head back, the three of you,” I said finally.
There was a brief pause.
“And what should we do with this guy?”
Silas asked.
My expression darkened.
“Bring him with you.”
Silence.
“I want him to look me in the face,” I continued coldly, “and repeat exactly what he told you.”
“Okay,” Silas said. “We’ll be there soon.”
I didn’t say anything else.
I just ended the call.
The phone slipped from my hand and landed on the table with a dull thud.
“Who the f**k are you…” I muttered.
My jaw tightened.
The nerve.
Whoever this person was—they had guts. I'll give them that.
Targeting me.
Touching my business.
Tampering with my containers.
Causing me losses in billions.
A low scoff left my lips.
“They must be tired of living.”
Because I was going to teach them a lesson.
One they would never forget.
I turned away from the desk, pacing the room slowly.
My mind was already planning.
Calculating.
Thinking ahead.
But then—
A sudden thought hit me.
Sharp.
Dangerous.
If they were after me…
Then that meant they knew about me.
And if they knew about me—
Then they knew about Sophie.
I froze.
My chest tightened slightly.
What if—
What if they went after her?
What if they were watching her right now?
At the café?
My head snapped toward the table.
I grabbed my phone immediately and started scrolling through my contacts.
“N… N…” I muttered under my breath.
My finger stopped.
Naomi.
I didn’t have her number.
“Shit.”
I scrolled again.
Faster this time.
D.
Danny.
I tapped it immediately and brought the phone to my ear.
It rang once.
Then—
“Yes, boss.”
“Where are you?” I asked sharply.
“We’re at the café right now.”
My jaw tightened.
“Are you close to them?”
“Yes, boss. I’m about three feet away. They’re in my line of sight.”
I exhaled slightly.
Good.
“Keep your eyes open. You know that, right?”
“Always.”
“Good.”
I paused for a second.
“Hand the phone to Naomi.”
There was a slight shuffle.
About five seconds passed.
Then—
“The boss wants to speak with you.”
And then I heard her voice.
Calm.
Almost teasing.
“Miss us already? We’ve just been gone for forty five minutes.”
Despite everything, I almost smirked.
“I just wanted to make sure you got there safely.”
From the background, I heard Sophie’s small voice.
Excited.
Happy.
“Naomi! Look! I like this book! Let’s get it so you can read it to me before bedtime!”
Naomi’s tone softened instantly.
“Okay, Ginger. Just hold on to it.”
Then she came back on the phone.
“I have to go.”
“Sure,” I said. “No problem.”
The phone shifted again.
“Don’t worry, boss,” Danny said. “I’ll make sure they’re safe.”
“Good.”
I ended the call.
Slowly.
Then I stood there.
Running a hand through my hair again.
Something wasn’t right.
I didn’t know what was coming.
But I could feel it.
If what Silas said was true—
Then a war was brewing.
A war I didn’t bargain for.
A war I didn’t start.
But one I was going to finish.
My eyes darkened.
“And when it comes…” I muttered,
“I’ll be ready.”

POV: Naomi
I watched Sophie move along the shelves, her tiny fingers brushing over the colorful spines of children’s books.
Her excitement was written all over her face.
Her eyes sparkled.
Her smile never faded.
And somehow…
That alone made this whole day feel worth it.
As soon as we got to the café, she begged for ice cream.
And I agreed.
Of course I did.
It was my first day.
No way I was starting it by saying no to ice cream.
We both had one.
And now—
We were here.
In the little bookstore section of the café.
“This might not be such a bad idea after all…” I murmured under my breath.
My eyes shifted slightly.
And landed on him.
The driver.
Danny.
The moment I saw him back at the mansion, I knew something was off.
He didn’t look like a driver.
He looked like a bodyguard.
Tall.
Built.
And very serious.
Not a single unnecessary movement.
He stood out like a cactus in a flower garden.
Kids were running around him, laughing, playing games, even hiding behind him.
And he didn’t even react.
Not even once.
He just stood there unbothered.
Unmoved.
The only person he smiled at?
Sophie.
And honestly—
Who wouldn’t?
A small laugh escaped me as I remembered the car ride.
She had been describing something to me and had said “Isn’t that right, Danny bear?”
Danny bear?
And he had no choice but to respond.
Even then—
I had burst into laughter just thinking about it.
I shook my head slightly.
Then walked up behind her.
“Ginger,” I said, peeking over her shoulder. “How many books did you pick out?”
“I picked four!” she said proudly. “Is that enough?”
I squinted slightly at the stack in her hands.
“Well… if you don’t want another, we can pay for those.”
Her eyes widened suddenly.
“Oh! I want a coloring book! And coloring pencils too!”
Of course you do.
I smiled.
“Okay. Where do they keep those?”
She pointed immediately.
“It’s on the top shelf! Over there!”
I followed her finger.
“Alright. Wait here for me, okay?”
She nodded.
I walked toward the shelf and climbed the small ladder placed beside it.
Carefully, I pulled out a few coloring books.
And then—
I lifted my head.
Just for a second.
To look outside the window.
I saw a man passing by.
I looked down.
But— Wait.
I looked up almost immediately.
He was gone.
My brows furrowed.
“I’ve seen that face before…” I muttered.
Where?
My mind searched.
Fast.
Was it the park?
At the bar?
Somewhere else?
I shook my head.
“Forget it, Naomi…”
I climbed down and walked back.
“I got the coloring book,” I said. “We’ll get the pencils at the counter.”
“Okay!”
“Let’s go pay.”
I took her hand.
Warm.
Small.
Trusting.
And we walked to the counter.
I picked up a pack of coloring pencils and placed everything down.
“How much will this be?” I asked with a smile.
The receptionist scanned everything.
“That will be 7.25, ma’am. Cash or card?”
“Cash.”
I pulled out my purse and handed her the money.
She packed everything neatly and handed it to me.
“Thank you. Come back again next time.”
We walked back to Danny.
“I need to use the restroom real quick,” I said. “Can you watch her?”
He nodded.
I bent slightly.
“Be good, Ginger. Stay with Danny bear.”
“Okay!”
I turned and headed for the restroom.
The restroom was quiet.
Clean.
I did my business quickly and washed my hands.
Then stepped out.
As I walked down the hallway—
The man from before appeared again.
The same man.
He walked past me.
Heading into the men’s restroom.
He was on the phone.
“I’m positive,” he said, his voice low, “the child is in the café like last time.”
The door closed behind him.
And I stopped walking.
Everything clicked.
That voice.
That face.
It was the man from the park.
My stomach dropped.
“That’s him…”
The man who tried to kidnap Sophie.
My heart started pounding.
Fast.
Hard.
I turned immediately.
And walked—no—hurried back.
Danny and Sophie were still there.
Good.
“We have to go now,” I said quickly.
Sophie blinked.
“What?” Danny asked.
I looked at Danny and leaned in slightly.
“I saw someone. I’m sure he’s the one who tried to kidnap Sophie last time.”
His expression changed instantly.
Cold.
Alert.
“We don’t have time,” I added. “Let’s go.”
Without hesitation, he picked Sophie up like she was a doll.
She didn’t even protest.
We moved fast toward the exit.
But just before I stepped out—
I turned.
The man had come out of the hallway.
He looked around.
Panicked.
Searching.
Then his eyes moved toward the door.
Toward me.
I smirked slightly.
And mouthed—
“Nice try, you asshole.”
Then I turned and ran.
We reached the car.
Sophie was already strapped in.
I got in beside her.
“Drive,” I said sharply.
The car sped off.
And just as we pulled away—
The café door burst open.
The man ran out.
Watching us.
His eyes locked on the car.
And something about that look—
Told me this wasn’t over.
Not even close.
****
As the car disappeared into traffic—
The man slowly pulled out his phone.
His expression dark.
Cold.
Focused.
“They’re on the move,” he said.
A pause.
Then—
“Yes… I’m sure this time.”
Silence.
Then a low chuckle came from the other end.
“Good.”
A voice replied.
“Let them run.”
Another pause.
“They’re playing my game just as I suspected.”
