When Sophie woke up once again, it was already dusk. Orange streaks seeped through the blinds, and Sophie’s head felt much clearer. She glanced to the side to see a tray of hospital food ready for her. Good thing, because her stomach was still not satisfied with Edmund’s light soup. Funny—the baby wasn’t even here anymore, but the appetite seemed to stay. Sophie chuckled, and through tears, she finally had her first meal. The hot soup warmed her stomach. If the baby was still there, they would feel so comfortable. The thought brought another tear, but Sophie straightened herself. No. She needed to be strong. Perhaps this was the best outcome. Sophie was more than ready to be a single mother. But if Adrian ever learnt about the child’s existence, it would undoubtedly complicate things.
