Chapter 2

1093 Words
The transition from the quiet agony of the office to the blinding public humiliation of the pack square happened in a blur. Before Eva could gather her shattered dignity, Logan grabbed her by the upper arm, his grip unnecessarily tight, and forcefully led her out onto the grand stone balcony overlooking the entire pack courtyard. The plaza below was absolute chaos, filled with hundreds of excited pack members chanting Logan’s name, eagerly awaiting the crowning of their new Luna. They expected a celebration. They had no idea they were about to witness an execution of a girl's spirit. "Gather around!" Logan’s Alpha aura flared violently, sweeping over the courtyard like an invisible heavy wave. His deep, commanding voice boomed across the stone plaza, instantly freezing the crowd into a dead, expectant silence. Eva stood a step behind him, her entire body shaking so hard she feared she would collapse over the railing. Chloe stepped out right alongside him, her hand sliding possessively through his arm, leaning her head against his shoulder. The crowd murmured in confusion at the sight of the stepsister instead of the fated mate, but no one dared question an Alpha. "Members of the Bloodmoon Pack!" Logan announced, his voice steady, carrying the chilling authority of a man who had completely detached himself from his conscience. "As your newly crowned leader, my primary directive is the absolute survival, dominance, and military strength of our territory. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. And a pack cannot survive when its leadership is tethered to a fragile, powerless omega who cannot even shift." He turned his cold, piercing gaze away from the crowd and locked it onto Evangeline, who looked back at him with tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "Therefore, before the eyes of the Moon Goddess, before the ancestors of our lineage, and before the entire assembly of the Bloodmoon Pack," Logan declared, his words ringing like a death knell through the silent courtyard. "I, Alpha Logan Thorne, officially and permanently reject you, Evangeline Rosewood, as my fated mate and future Luna. I break our bond, and I reject your wolf." No! Eva’s silver wolf let out a guttural, earth-shattering shriek inside her mind. A physical shockwave of pure, unadulterated agony ripped through Eva's chest. It didn't feel like a spiritual severing; it felt like a physical hand had reached into her ribcage and ripped her heart out with rusted iron hooks. The severing of a fated mate bond at the very moment of awakening was a trauma few wolves survived. Eva collapsed to her knees on the hard stone balcony, clutching her chest, her mouth open in a silent scream as her lungs refused to take in oxygen. The sudden, violent withdrawal of Logan's essence left a freezing, howling void in her soul. The courtyard below erupted into shocked whispers and dark murmurs, but before any sympathy could form, Chloe stepped forward to ensure the final nail was driven into Eva's coffin. "And that is not all, my pack!" Chloe shouted, her voice laced with a flawless layer of theatrical grief and righteous anger. "This pathetic omega knew she was being rejected for her incompetence. In her desperation and greed, she snuck into the pack vaults early this morning. I caught her myself, red-handed, trying to smuggle out our sacred lunar relics and ancient gold. She tried to rob the very pack that fed her!" "I didn't! She's lying!" Eva choked out, blood dripping from her lips as the internal pressure of the broken bond tore at her organs. She dragged herself across the stone toward Logan’s boots, looking up at him with desperate, pleading eyes. "Logan, please... look at me. You know me. I have never stolen a thing in my life. I loved you! Please don't do this!" "Silence!" Logan roared. He didn't just speak; he unleashed his full Alpha command directly at her. The sheer, crushing weight of his dominant aura forced Eva’s head down against the stone balcony with a sickening crack. The pressure was immense, causing her nose to bleed, the dark crimson drops staining the immaculate white stone of the balcony. Logan looked down at her prostrate form with nothing but deep, unyielding disgust. "You are a thief, a parasite, and an absolute disgrace to the Thorne bloodline," Logan sneered, his voice echoing for all to hear. "I strip you of your family name, your pack title, and your protection. You are hereby banished from the Bloodmoon territory. Guards! Drag this criminal to the northern border and throw her into the Forbidden Forest. If she ever sets foot on our lands again, she is to be executed on sight." The pack guards, eager to please their new Alpha, rushed onto the balcony. They grabbed Eva brutally by her shoulders, hauling her to her feet. Her legs were completely useless, dragging uselessly along the carpet as they marched her down the grand staircase and through the courtyard. The very pack members she had cooked for, cleaned for, and lived alongside for eighteen years didn't offer a single hand of help. Instead, they threw rotten food, stones, and insults at her, chanting the word thief until the sound burned into her ears. The guards dragged her for miles through the mud, finally reaching the desolate, jagged northern border where the dark, twisted, and malevolent trees of the Forbidden Forest stood. A massive, historic winter blizzard was howling through the mountains, filling the air with blinding sheets of ice and snow. With a brutal, mocking laugh, the lead guard shoved Eva forcefully across the magical border line, sending her rolling down a steep incline into the freezing, deep snowdrifts. "Enjoy the blizzard, omega," the guard sneered, spitting into the snow. "Try not to get eaten before you freeze." Eva lay completely still in the deep, suffocating snow. Her thin, cotton dress offered absolutely zero protection against the sub-zero temperatures. The freezing wind bit into her exposed skin like millions of tiny needles, but she could barely feel it. The agony inside her chest, the weeping of her broken wolf, and the sheer weight of Logan's betrayal had put her body into rapid shock. Her breathing grew shallow. Her heartbeat slowed. As her vision began to blur into a heavy, permanent darkness, the howling wind suddenly died down to an eerie, unnatural hush. Through the shifting white curtains of the blizzard, a pair of glowing, predatory crimson eyes appeared in the deep dark of the woods, moving slowly, silently, and terrifyingly straight toward her.
