yujin's pov
The banquet hall was too much. Noise, eyes everywhere, and her. Britany. I watched from across the room while a high-ranked demon, Hiroshi, locked eyes on her like she was his prey
My fists clenched. He stepped in close, voice low and smooth: “Hello, beauty.”Britany didn’t flinch. “That’s not my name. And who the hell are you?”
“I am Hiroshi, a high-ranked demon. And you are?” he purred.
“I’m Britany. A human. Duh. It’s not like you’re blind or something.”
I saw it happen — Hiroshi’s smile sharpened. “Britany, you’re really testing my patience.”
And that’s when I lost it. My eyes burned. Gold turned to deep red. Every part of me was glaring at the man who dared not even notice me standing there. She was mine to protect. Not his.
Then Brianna’s voice cut through the noise and tapped me on the shoulder. “Hey, we need to talk.”
turned, already on edge. “What are you doing here?”
Brianna’s mouth twisted like she was amused. “Having fun.” But her eyes weren’t smiling. She nodded toward the side. That’s when I saw them — a couple of guys dragging Britany to a room while everyone else was too distracted to notice.
My blood went cold.
I heard her shout from down the hall. “Get away from me!”
Hiroshi's voice came next, smug and low. “You’re stuck here with me.” He ordered the boys to come out, then looked at her like she was already his. “So where should I start?”
Britany’s voice cracked with rage. “What are you thinking of, you bastard?”
I wanted to move. I tried to. But the guards had me pinned.
Hiroshi stepped closer to her. “I got it. Your whole body seemed untouched. I would be the first.” He smirked. “Don’t get me angry in the process.” Then he came at her.
And I couldn’t reach her.
I heard her. Britany’s voice cut through everything else, raw and terrified. “No, please,” she begged.
I twisted toward the sound, but Hiroshi had me blocked. I couldn’t see her. Couldn’t get to her. That made it worse.
Then his voice, low and sickeningly calm: “Don’t worry. It won’t hurt.” I heard the zipper. My stomach dropped. He was slowly unzipping her gown, revealing her inner wear. I pictured his hands grabbing her breast and squeezing it hard before she could stop him.
Then the scream came. Loud. Broken. It hit me like a blade.
“Britany!” I roared her name, but I couldn’t see her.
Brianna’s voice came from the doorway. “At least she’s in that room. ‘Cause that’s where the scream came out from.”
I didn’t wait. I teleported. Straight into the room. And there she was — Brittany.
Hiroshi turned to me, acting like he belonged there. “Who are you? You’re invading my privacy.”
Britany saw me and her whole body shook with relief. “Yujin, help me, please.”
I stepped between them. My eyes were burning red. “I’m coming, Bri. I’m an ancient smoke demon, and I believe you are with my mate. And my name is Yujin.”
Hiroshi backpedaled fast. “Oh. I’m so sorry. I didn’t see any mark. Please, spare me, my lord. I beg of you.”
“Spare you?” My voice was ice. “It depends. Because first of all, you unzipped her gown. But thankfully she was wearing an inner. So second, what did you do to her that made her scream?”
He had no answer. And I wasn’t planning to give him time to make one up.
“i squeezed her......bre.....”hiroshi tried to speak
I cut him off before he could finish. “Do not complete that statement,” I snapped. “When I haven’t done anything to her except kiss her, what will I do to you?”
Then Brianna appeared. She didn’t hesitate. “Oh, I know. Burn him.” Her hand was already flaming. She was burning him where he stood.
I didn’t wait for her to finish him. I grabbed Britany and teleported us straight to his room.
The moment we landed, I turned to her. My eyes were red, heated with anger and fear. “Britany, why did you let him touch you and take you away?” The words came out harsher than I meant them to.
She shook her head fast. “I didn’t. He dragged me away.”
I felt my chest tighten. “So are you saying this is my fault?”
Britany looked up at me, lifting her face to see mine. Then she shouted, “No!” But she regretted it right after, because I looked furious. “I never meant for this to happen. I’m sorry.” Tears dropped from her eyes.
My anger broke. I wasn’t mad at her. I was mad at myself. “I’m the one who’s supposed to be sorry,” I said quietly. “I was supposed to be watching you.”
Britany cut in. “i shouldn't have wore that dress ”.
“I’m sorry, Bri,” I said, and the words felt useless the second they left my mouth.
Britany frowned at me. “Why are you apologizing? You’re confusing me. I thought you were angry.”
I wasn’t angry at her. I was angry at myself. “Yes, but at myself,” I told her. “I’m going to take revenge on his family for this.” The thought of Hiroshi’s hands on her made my blood boil.
She shook her head immediately. “No, Yujin. You’ll still be first. Yes, no one has ever touched me like that, but he wasn’t not direct. But you will.” She was blushing when she said it, and that made my chest tighten even more.
“Are you trying to make me feel better?” I asked. Because she was. And it was working. “Because you aren't. You are tempting me.
She stepped closer. “I don’t care. I’m ready now.”
“No, you are not,” I said, grabbing her hands. “You are doing this for me. Do it for yourself.
Britany softened. “I am, babe.”
I stared at her, then it hit me. “Oh. You decided to change my name.”
“Sometimes, Yujin,” she said, and pulled me closer. She kissed me, slow and sure, and I responded without thinking. My hands found her waist, holding her like I’d never let go.
I broke the kiss just enough to breathe. “Britany, what if I lose control and end up marking you?” The demon in me wanted it. Badly.
“That would be great,” she whispered back.
“Do you know what you are saying?” I asked, even though my heart was already answering for her.
“Yes,” she said. “I want to be marked.”
The air in the room changed the second she said yes. Our bodies were already close, but that one word broke the last thread of restraint I had left.
I moved over her slowly, giving her time to pull back if she needed to. She didn’t. Her hands found my shoulders instead, anchoring me like I was the only thing keeping her steady. When we came together, her breath hitched. Pain first — I saw it flash across her face — then something softer, deeper, that made her grip me tighter.
That sound she made nearly undid me.
“Bri, can I bite you now?” My voice was rougher than I intended. The demon in me was clawing at my ribs, desperate. The mark on my gum throbbed like it knew what was coming.
She hesitated for half a second. I saw the shock in her eyes, the flicker of doubt. Then she made her choice. Her neck tilted, baring the spot for me, trusting me with it. “Yes.”
I paused. One last chance to stop. She didn’t flinch. So I lowered my head. The moment my fangs broke skin, her whole body jerked under me. “Ouch,” she gasped, but her hands didn’t push me away. They pulled me closer.
I jerked back instantly, panic flooding me. “Are you okay?” My heart was hammering like I’d done damage instead of what we both wanted.
Her fingers came up to touch her neck, then to my face. “Yes,” she whispered. “So are you okay?” Like she was more worried about me than the bite.
“Yeah,” I lied, because my pulse was still roaring. “But when the mark fades, I have to renew it.” It wasn’t a choice. If I didn’t, the bond would weaken. Anyone could get to her. The thought alone made my blood run cold.
Britany shifted until her forehead rested against my chest. I felt h
er breathe me in. “I can manage that,” she murmured. “It doesn’t hurt that much.”
But it wasn’t about the pain. It was about her trusting me with something permanent. With her. And I felt the weight of it settle over me — fear, need, and this overwhelming urge to keep every threat in the world away from her.
