"Pocket, pocket watch?" Bruce was confused for a moment, and then his mind drifted back to what he had clutched in his hand that day, the gold pocket watch with the engraving of an eagle banshee. "Did you, did you ......" he swallowed his throat, which had become dry from nervousness, "did Mr Jaron hire you?" "Now, I'm the one asking the questions. One more word of nonsense and watch your eyes." Evantha continued to threaten. "I already sold that pocket watch!" Bruce's voice became shrill with fear, "Didn't I already tell him that? Why are you still coming after me for it!?" His mind was in turmoil, it seemed to him that the only person who would come to him for that gold pocket watch was Jaron - in fact, Jaron did approach him after Veronica's arrest and offered to exchange money for that pocket watch. But he had sold it the next day after it had come into his possession. Doing this thing he did not think too much, he did not take the gold watch to blackmail Jia Long's guts, and at the same time, worried about Jia Long backtracking, so he simply exchanged the gold watch directly for the first hand in the money. At that time, when Jia Long heard about this matter he was a bit furious, but he didn't do anything to him, so why did he now suddenly hire an assassin to come to him? He quickly remembered that day, the warden who had visited him, and Jia Long who had made a point of asking him out afterwards to warn him that someone might be doing a flip-flop investigation and to keep his mouth shut. Could ...... it be because of this? Because someone had started an investigation, Jaron was worried that he would spill the beans and just get it over with ...... "Since you can't get what I want ......," the assassin said coldly, "then I can only take your life to deliver." "Wait wait wait! Let me see your employer! Let me meet him! I'll make it clear to him that I'll never say anything about him! Don't kill me!" Bruce begged incoherently. "The only job I get is to keep my mouth shut, and only a dead man's mouth is the most secure." The killer's voice sank. Clenched in despair, Bruce foresaw the blood about to gush from his neck, "Stop, stop-" "Stop!" A baritone voice from behind called the killer's movements for him, "Hurt him and I'll shoot you right now." At this moment, the main actor made his appearance. "Help, help!!!" Bruce subconsciously begged the mysterious man for help. Evantha put away one of her sharp blades and grabbed Bruce with her free hand to turn around and face the mysterious man. After being forced to turn around, Bruce blinked his eyes, which were seeping tears from fear, and finally saw the person who came to his rescue, "You are ...... Mr Aiden?" "The thing I feared the most still happened." Aiden sighed with a grim expression and pointed his g*n at the assassin behind him, "Quickly release the hostages, you'll soon be surrounded, grab and surrender!" The assassin didn't say a word, but grabbed Bruce's collar with his free hand and lifted his entire body one-handed using Bruce's unimaginably monstrous strength, using him as a shield. Bruce had a bit of trouble breathing for a moment with his collar stuck around his neck, and could only desperately struggle with his legs. "Don't do anything rash!" Aiden snapped, "I said let go of the hostage, and if you kill him you'll be shot right back!" The killer's movements stalled for a moment, moving the sharp blade away from Bruce's neck and raising it high. "That's right." Aiden feigned relief. The Slayer caught him on this break and with a sudden force in his hand, hurled Bruce's entire body at Aiden. Aiden was caught "off guard" and staggered to the ground, where he was knocked into Bruce's arms. The two fell to the ground together, and by the time Aiden pushed Bruce away and got up with his g*n, the killer was long gone. "Damn, let him get away!" Aiden pretended to grit his teeth. Bruce sat on the floor, his legs weak and in shock. "Are you okay, it's a shame we didn't catch that guy." Aiden put away his g*n and reached out to help him. Bruce finally reacted, and a sudden shudder ran through him as he looked at where the killer had disappeared - his life, already on the line, and the killer still hiding in the shadows. "Why didn't you get him!" He questioned as he rose from the ground, glaring emotionally at Aiden, "I would have died if I let him get away!" Aiden froze for a moment, then laughed out loud at the boy's exasperation, "Is that the way you treat your saviour? But it's justifiable, after all, you even managed to betray Officer Veronica who has been taking care of you." "What did you say!?" Bruce was thunderstruck. "It's almost time to open up, boy. Aren't you going to ask why I'm here?" Aiden came to with a meaningful smile. "Why?" Bruce subconsciously asked, following Aiden's words. "Because I've been watching you." Aiden stomped his cane on the ground and said in a business-like tone, "Constable Bruce Kane, we suspect you of accepting a bribe and perjuring yourself to frame others for concealing incriminating evidence in the case of the murder of Officer Veronica Wolffy, and have listed you as a suspect." "I ...... I I I I didn't!" Bruce was instantly disrupted and desperately shook his head. From almost being stabbed by the assassin to being accused by Aiden to his face, he had absolutely no time to calmly think things through. And Aiden didn't intend to give him a chance to catch his breath, and directly threw out the killer: "Don't be in a hurry to deny it ah, let's talk about the gold pocket watch that Officer Jalon Rhoden handed over to you, how about it?" Bruce was petrified in place on the spot. "It should be clear to you by now which point we've grasped." Aiden stared at Bruce and said, "To tell you the truth, I'm currently assisting Officer Veronica's retrial investigation, and her application for retrial has been passed by the prosecutor's office. The DA's office has gotten hold of a lot of key clues that have now led to you, that's why I've been following you." "I don't know what you're talking about?" Bruce was still trying to weasel his way out of this, but he was already sweating like a pig. "Could it be that someone told you that as long as you don't say anything, you'll be absolutely fine? Do you still believe that person now?" Aiden pressed him with calmness, "You don't have the slightest clue where the assassin just came from, do you?" The words sent a chill down Bruce's back. After Aiden had approached him for questioning, Jaron had specifically asked him out to talk, and on top of that had intercepted a meeting Aiden had requested, isolating him from Aiden, who had come to investigate. Then, he encountered a killer, and it was Aiden who ended up saving him ...... Was all of this, by Jaron's design? Because the prosecutor's office investigated them, the guy was in a hurry to shut him up!!!? The more he thought about it, the more likely it seemed. "Mr Bruce, I'm specifically telling you this considering that you're under duress." Aiden patted Bruce's shoulder in a serious manner and said deftly, "Assist us and apply for witness protection, it's the only way for you to live. If you persist, you'll be silenced sooner or later."
