Can't be nothing, can it

Wandering line of sight, stiff facial expression, some stumbling talk, and the small action of scratching his face and wiping sweat from time to time ...... If Aiden's own subjective judgement is the benchmark, he can bite the young man in front of him is lying. Prison guard is not a job that has nothing to do with investigation, most of the cases of criminals committing crimes inside the prison are also handed over to the prison for investigation. After coming into contact with criminals of all shapes and sizes, Aiden himself had more or less honed his professional sense of smell to a certain extent. Coupled with the fact that he had left behind the knowledge and experience of his predecessor Aiden as a senior investigator, although he was not yet skilled enough to be able to do it with his own hands, he thought that he had at least sort of inherited 60 or 70% of his skills. Therefore, he was still relatively confident in his eyesight. What's more, this rookie of the police force in front of him did not possess the anti-detective qualities that could fool him at all. The feeling Bruce gave him was very similar to the group of first offenders in prison. Of course, he himself knew very well that his own subjective judgement was meaningless. To overturn Veronica's conviction, the evidence that convicted Veronica would have to be overturned - Bruce's testimony, and the sidearm that was missing bullets, both of which Bruce alone could single-handedly produce. But on the flip side, as soon as Bruce reverses his testimony, the chain of evidence that convicted Veronica is incomplete. In other words, the young man in front of him was the key to Veronica's ability to overturn her conviction. This time, he came to visit Bruce on purpose, mainly because he wanted to confirm what kind of person the other party was. The first impression Bruce left on Aiden was that of a relatively simple little character. Regarding the matter of perjury and framing Veronica for imprisonment, he was obviously very uneasy, apart from his guilt towards Veronica, he was also very afraid that his perjury would cause him to lose his reputation, and even meet with imprisonment. This kind of perjury done by a minor character, there should be a chance to find out the cracks from him. At this time, the door of the parlour was suddenly pushed open, and the man with a big belly burst in, staring at the two men with a thick breath. Aiden glanced at the man in surprise, he knew that the Mounted Police Force had certain requirements for appearance when selecting members due to the nature of their work. The man in front of him looked to be in his prime, but had already grown a noticeable beer belly, and if he wasn't wearing the uniform of a mounted police officer, Aiden would never have been able to tell that he was a mounted police officer. "Ja, Mr Jaron!" Bruce looked startled. "What are you doing here?" Jaron looked at Bruce and eyed Aiden with a wary look on his face, "What department are you from?" "Hello, I'm Warden Aiden of the Rosebud Iron Prison, and I have a few questions for Constable Bruce today due to some work related matters." Aiden gently exchanged pleasantries with the other party. "What work-related questions? What could a prison guard have to do with us?" Jaron stared at him aggressively, "You don't just drag our people into small talk and interfere with our work!" "Don't worry, I've already asked what I need to ask, it's almost time to say goodbye." Aiden sensed that the other party's attitude was not good, and judging that it would be better not to tangle with the other party more, he took the initiative to stand up. "Constable Bruce, thank you very much for your co-operation, I will definitely treat you to dinner when I have the chance." Aiden took the initiative to shake hands with Bruce and stride out of the parlour, the officer named Jaron followed out without a word. Walking from the parlour to the gate of the police station, every time he turned around, Aiden could feel the other party's eyes pinned on his back. As soon as he left the police station, Aiden turned into an alley. After confirming that no one was around, he touched a cat's eye stone ring on his hand, and a black cat appeared from the depths of the alley, coming close to Aiden and rubbing against his leg. "Got a good look at the target? Daley." He stared down at the black cat, his lips twitching slightly. "It's the brat who talked to the warden, I think, got it." Daley's voice rang in his ears, as if the enchanting witch was standing right next to him, exhaling. Sorceress Dai Li knew many secret spells, apart from summoning demons, she would also control black cats and crows as her envoys, allowing the envoys to share their senses with her, and on top of that, she was able to use cat's-eye stones and crystal balls as mediums to peer into faraway landscapes. Even if she stayed in jail, she could do the tracking and spying for Aiden. "Very well, keep an eye on him when he leaves the police station at the end of his shift, and report back to me at night and me about his travels." Aiden knelt down and stroked the black cat's head. "It would be an honour to serve you, and of course I should be more motivated if I get a chance to eat a butter berry pie fresh out of the oven on Seventh Street in the lower city today." The witch slyly pouted at him, "Surely there's a reward for doing such a thing for the Warden of Rewards and Punishments, isn't there? Anyway, thanks in advance, the Warden hasn't said anything yet, but it can't be nothing, can it?" Aiden raised his eyebrows and stared at the black cat for a while before finally bursting out laughing, "You've grown up a bit, daring to make a deal with me? It's okay." Aiden returned to the prison in the afternoon and went to the core first. "Room twelve, Daley, face-to-face." Aiden came to the door of room twelve and signalled Flanda beside him to take her to the interview room. "Hey, hey, love you, Warden!" Daley plopped down in front of the door and happily winked at Aiden. "Alright, alright, remember to do what you were told properly." Aiden waved his hand and turned towards room thirteen across the hall. Across the railing, he saw a scene unimaginable until yesterday. Veronica was sitting on the edge of her bed absentmindedly flipping through a novel - one of the few entertainments allowed in prison to pass the time - while Phil was kneeling behind her, attentively rubbing her shoulders. Looking at this scene, it was hard to imagine that Faye had cried out the day before to change rooms to be separated from this death row inmate. "Yo, when did you guys get so close?" Aiden snickered as if he was making conversation with them. "Lord Aiden you're here!" Faye greeted Aiden attentively as usual. "Warden ......," Veronica also lifted her face and nodded towards Aiden with some restraint. After yesterday's heart-to-heart conversation, her attitude towards Aiden had obviously softened. "Is this a new minion you've taken in? Blending in here is blending in fast!" Aiden laughed and pointed at Faye behind her. "She's the one who had to stick it to me." Veronica looked rather helpless, "I told her to do her own thing and leave me alone." "Since we are destined to be roommates, we should improve our relationship. As soon as I saw you, sister, I felt especially connected!" Fei'er wrapped her arms around Veronica's neck with a pleasing face. "Let go!" Veronica nonchalantly brushed aside her arm. "Your skill at opening your eyes is really getting stronger." Aiden looked at Faye and shook his head, he knew that Faye would take the initiative to stick to Veronica after she was convinced that Veronica wasn't a real murderer, in fact, she wanted to let the other party cover herself and use Veronica as a free bodyguard. "Alright, room 13, Veronica, warden's face meeting." He turned to Veronica and brought up business. "Warden face meeting?" Veronica didn't respond. "Just a face-to-face meeting with me, I have some questions for you." Aiden said gesturing for Flanda to open the cell door, "Come out." "What about me?" Faye looked like she wanted to climb up the pole. "Stay where you are!" Aiden glared at her.
